The Drought has officially ended, sorta

The Summer Drought was rough these past few months with very, very few if any good games to buy.  Graev informs me that the drought is officially over and it ended last Tuesday with the release of Deus Ex.  Next week is Dead Island and 40k Space Marine.  I think we’re both sold on Dead Island.  It looks like Left 4 Dead meets Dead Rising with interactive environments, survival, and RPG elements. Now the decision of which platform to buy it on is looming over my head.

We streamed a bunch during the drought, completing over a dozen older games including most Marios, all Kingdom Hearts games, older Deus Ex, Mass Effects 1&2, Dragon Age, and more.  Streaming is something we really want to continue.  We’re working out whether or not we want it to be a scheduled event or just something we do whenever we’re playing. I’ll probably start streaming Minecraft tonight and Dragon Age 1 as well.  Hop on and chat with me while I play.  On the sidebar of the blog here you can see a twitch.tv player that will indicate when we’re live.

Although the drought might technically be over, my own personal drought remains somewhat in affect until October 25.  I’m really wanting to immerse myself in BF3 which will make the wait for SWTOR (which I think will come out this year) easier.  To pass the time until then, Minecraft on our K&G Community server is fun and you can join us if you post on the forums and get white-listed.

It’s like the calm before the storm.  I can’t stand it!

  • It’s definitely a slower, more strategic shooter. But the sequel also looks a bit more accessible than the original. I love the game’s suppression system, which I feel every FPS should adopt. Essentially, if an MG is firing in your direction, your screen will shake and start getting blurry. The idea is, in real combat, you’d never be able to simply pop out and fire back at an MG without feeling its affects and dealing with them.

Example: In Day of Defeat Source, an MG could provide cover fire, but it never really stopped enemies from freely moving about or popping out of cover to snipe you. In RO, it’s very difficult to do that when you’re suppressed.

Anyway, it’s a niche shooter for sure, but it’s worth checking out.
