Warhammer conglomoblog

Whew, It’s been another whirlwhind weekend.  Essays to write and tests to study for as the semester comes to a close.  Oh, and then there’s the whole gaming thing which I’m sure you’re all more interested in hearing about.   There’s been quite a bit of news swirling around the WAR community the past couple of days and some interesting development closer to home.  I really don’t have a format for this so I’m just going to lump it all together in a conglomoblog.

Mythic CSR’s come to the rescue!
Yes, they have finally helped me fix the guild transfer problem which resulted in, well, my guild not transferring at all. Tonight while I was defending our keep in Kadrin valley I was contacted by a very friendly GM who was quick to inform me that he was here to see that my problem was resolved. He was extremely apologetic that my petition went so long unanswered. I won’t go into details here since I’m not sure if I’m at liberty to do so, but this CSR went to great lengths – above and beyond -to help me and I want to again express my gratitude for the help. I would also like to thank Andy from Community for undoubtedly seeing to it that the CSRs come to my rescue.

So, once again, Happy Fun Guyz members please contact MORKEEN or any other online member of the guild for an invite. Let’s get the guild back up and running in full swing and knock out some dungeons and RvR together. I’m really energized now that our guild is restored and I would love to take advantage of our magnificent server. Let’s not let a few hiccups ruin our fun.

Identity Crisis…
I’m struggling to pick a class to stick with after 1.0.6. I’m a Shaman at heart but part of me is not liking that I feel like, as a supposed hybrid, I’m stuck doing nothing but spec’ing full healing and just healbotting the entire time. I guess my feelings are rooted back in the oldschool DAOC Shaman… Cave spec was worthless back then just like Gork is today. Shaman have an entire tree to deal damage but if we stop healing for even a moment then people die.

I’ve been thinking about making a Squig Herder. I played Graev’s for a while and I really enjoyed it. Now that they give Bright Wizards a run for their money the itch to level one is just begging to be scratched. I’m going to go back and forth on this for a while and make a SH anyway… whether the Shaman stays my main or not will be the question.

Official Forums?
Garthilk from WHA thinks so. Honestly, Mark Jacobs has been adamant to a fault that we’ll never see official forums but I really think he’ll go back on this one. Sorry Mark, I just have this feeling that where the game is at now that it would actually benefit from a place where the community can come together. Will you be singing backup for that Bill Shatner and Roseanne album? 😉

Dark Crag performance blows but Mythic admits it
I’ve blogged about this recently and the problem still has not gone away. In case you’re not in the know, the problem is the servers crashing (or just the regions with 400+ people in them) which is causing the fortress taking to be impossible. RvR is just overall a laggy mess. Good thing (at least I think?) here is that Mythic acknowledges that the problem is there and that it’s unacceptable. When I say Mythic, I mean Mark Jacobs, but anyway. Mark Quote:

“I think that these problems should not be happening, can’t continue and that the team is better than this. I’ve also said that this must be fixed as quickly as possible and that it’s the #1 priority of the engineering team. We need to do whatever we can as quickly as we can to alleviate this problem whether it involves immediate programming and/or design changes and that is already happening and will continue until the problems are resolved.”

I’ll cross my fingers and hope. If the lag is fixed, like I’ve been saying, WAR will be in an amazing place. The action is INTENSE at all times of the day!

I think that’s the conglomoblog for the night! Sorry about things being slow here lately. After finals I should be able to devote more time to blogging and playing.

  • this is funny you posted this at about midnight yeh? cose it seams the last 10 or so posts ive been the first to see being the only semi regular from Australia its only 5pm here… right now anyway nice post i hope war picks up i for one stopped cose my friends left and strange thing is i don’t miss it which is why i haven’t come back
ps: anyone read this from Australia ?

  • > it’s the #1 priority of the engineering team. We need to do whatever we can as quickly as we can

As an engineer myself, all I can say is… poor engineering team… I can see a lot of overtime and hectic work in their near future 😉

  • so your on the scummy side then 😀
hmm i know where i got teh idea it was 12. on steam i was talking to bartlebe(spelling) and he said it was 12 at his place when it was 4-430 here which makes sense

  • Question – do you think your blog post had anything to do with your getting special service from a GM or can the regular punter expect such service too?

  • I made a Squid Herder after I got to level 18 with sorcerer and found him completely unsoloable. So until I get a leveling partner or just focus on RVR that character is on hold. My squig herder is at level 5 and I really like it. It takes what I loved about the shadow warrior and enhanced it by giving it squigs.

    I highly recommend it.

  • @mbp: I’m sure my blog had nothing to do with it. As I pointed out, I made a forum post that luckily caught the attention of Andy (Community Coordinator). He took my info and passed it on (at least that’s what he said he would do). I assume the reason I got such great assistance was because he passed it along. Whether or not the CSR’s give that kind of help all the time could be entirely possible.

  • Concerning the identity crisis, I know exactly how you feel Keen. I am still trying to find a class that really fits my playstyle, though I think Marauder is a step in the right direction for me. We’ll see though.

  • Glad we got you guys taken care of Keen. Also, I’ll be focusing on reaching out to our WAR Podcasters so let me know if there is anything else we can do to help on that front.

  • Crazy, apparently you need a good running Gaming Blog in order to get the support you need from Mythic. *boggle*

  • The Squeeky Wheel get the Oil.

It is just a fact of life, and since Keen posted on the forums and has a well read blog means he squeeks louder.

  • @Andy_Mythic – Can you please do some of Keen’s homework so he has the time to podcast with Syp and I? That would be excellent! 😉

As for the Identity Crisis piece, I think you’re suffering from “being the only healer syndrome.” Are you usually the only healer? If so, yeah you’ll be stuck healing, but if you can get into a group with a Zealot, you should be able to focus a bit more on the Gork/Green and then off-heal when necessary.

  • @Snafzg: Hey, I have free time now. 😛 I finished my research paper and my umpteenth essay. Just a few finals to study for and then I’m home free for 2 months. 😉 Email me – let’s set it up. My schedule has sucked lately though… if anyoen wants to take my finals for me I won’t say no! 😛

  • @Keen:

I’m kind of bummed that you are feeling pigeon-holed into healbotting with your Shammy. The concept behind the Sham/AM class mechanic was a good one, but it looks like in practice those classes still end up healbotting a lot. Most of the AMs I know focus primarily on healing too.

In 1.0.6, it looks like Magus, SH, and Eng are very strong RDPS classes. We’ve been seeing those 3 classes do very well in terms of T4 scenario damage on Phoenix Throne, and they have a lot of utility.

P.S. Kuze (if you read this blog): I’m sorry I haven’t had a chance to talk to you re: SM. The last couple times you were sent me tells I was in RVR and couldn’t chat. There were a lot of mostly-good changes for SM in 1.0.6, and I’ve had to adjust my playstyle accordingly.

  • More ChaosCast plz.

    @Keen

I plan on being a bit more active with my zealot. Hopefully we can group up and smash some rvr more frequently. Group healing is very rewarding to me. My work schedule has been insane as of late, but It should calm down soon.

  • Thank you Keen for a wicked-sweet blog. I have been avoiding WAR for about a month now, and I think you have convinced me to resub single-handed. In fact, I think I’ll join you on Dark Crag. 🙂
