Yesterday I posted how Happy Fun Guyz claimed a Keep in Avelorn T3. This afternoon that keep came under sudden attack! I was offline editing the next episode of ChaosCast (coming soon!) and overheard guildies in vent saying that our keep was under attack by an army of Order. Jumping online as fast as I could, and conveniently logged out right near the keep, I came to the realization that it wasn’t just an army of Order… it was a FREAKING ARMY of Order! They launched a full scale attack on Ghrond’s Sacristy with magnificent speed.
We sent out the call to arms to our guild, alliance, and all those with ears. Within five minutes we had a full warband with another warband full of our allies on the way to defend. Even with our best efforts to form and defend, and they were truly great (thanks go out to ‘No Plans to Fix’ and Executions at Dawn!), we were too late to stop their massive force from taking the keep. Once Order took the keep a guild called Defiant claimed it and it was game on.
Our guild, alliance, and a lot of the realm community formed up and within minutes we had a full scale siege on our hands. At its peak we estimated about 75v75 in this keep siege. We had siege weapons constantly firing, arrows wizzing over out heads (I likened it to Helms Deep), spells flying, and weapons clanging. The Order did a great job at keeping rams off the wall door so the fight took us at least 30 minutes to get the door down.
We quickly realized that Order had even more people on the way in a constant stream and had a really healthy flow of respawning support. A few of our guys went around back and stopped/hindered their reinforcements and we were able to slowly get the wall door down. When we got into the courtyard the Order had placed defenses and troops on the walls and has a separate flanking zerg ready to try and sweet us. Through AoE healing and just a massive blitzkrieg we were able to throw them off and force them into the keep.  Ultimately the battle was won through attrition and when the keep door fell we stormed it so heavily that by the time the last people were upstairs we had smashed the keep to pieces.
Happy Fun Guyz reclaimed the keep sending a very clear message to Order: GTFO! 😛
It was a great siege and once again Destruction showed what they were made of – several different kinds of awesome! One important thing to note here is that we all did experience a bit of video lag during the siege but that’s probably to be expected. I think the worst lag came in the Lord room when everyone packed in and we had so many people that you couldn’t distinguish one character from the next. I think my performance dropped down to 5fps. But overall it was playable and tons of fun!

what are all the tents in the first SS ?
are they always sitting right outside of the gates, or are they player owned ?
The tents are always outside the door of the keep. They’re part of the designed atmosphere to portray a ‘lived in’ feeling. There are lots of npc guards that patrol around and it’s implied that they live in them. 🙂

Epic battle. The sense of purpose and accomplishment in this game is far superior to any other mmo I have ever played. What surprises me the most is that I feel this way after only reaching rank 23 on my zealot. WAR rocks.
Im soo jealous, seiges are a bit lame on our server, rolled on Azazel, same server as goon squad, 2/3 rd the server joined their guild, and they are rather useless as a guild, no communications, all they managed to do is nerf the entire destruction side, by forming them up into one non-helpful giant group that doesn’t do anything 🙁 Very tempted to re-roll with you guys, and have some real fun playing 🙂
Nice fight, We were there on behalf of Order and it was a blasty blast. Hope we have some more epic battles although I do believe Destro out numbered Order in the end. Currently I find that to be Orders greatest weakness… Destro will come to the aid of each other as we saw today and many times before. =(
hey guys, love your blog just wanted to ask what your computer specs were, cause im getting a new computer and want it to be able to run this game on fairly high graphics without it lagging.
Pok: I got a simple dual core processor, 2Gb of ram, a Nvidia 9800gfx+ and in big keepbattles I often turn off some of the less important graphics such as shadows, water reflections and lower some texture details. That makes it well playable.
Another thing that really helps framerate and ping in big battles is the BuffThrottle addon. [in the link above] It reduces the amount of network traffic considerably.
@PoK: I have 4gigs ram, Nvidia 8800gt 512, and a quadcore. In the future I’ll probably be turning down shadows and such to make it a little more playable but I believe it’s really an issue with the game being able to sustain that many people.
Nice! Last night, Destruction on Ostermark held a keep against Order assault for 4.5 hours. Probably 2.5 WB on Destro and around 3 WB on Order. It ended after another Destro WB came from behind to aid and crunched them in the first level with us above.
I haven’t had that much fun in a MMORPG for quite some time. It was crazy.
Yeah those are fun but what to do after those loose their fun? That is my concern…I think I may be getting bored 🙁
I actually am wondering if there will ever be a mmo that I will ever find that hooks me again.
That’s what i expect from war man.
Im lvling slowly and im enjoying every bit of it(kinda dislike the fact that i need to change faction areas to continue lvling at a point but that’s not a big deal atm).
So many scenarios, so many sieges around, it’s crazy man.

Keep battles are soo much fun when you get that many folks at the same keep. I can’t wait till we’re all at tier 4. It’ll be war in all 3 pairings all the time 🙂
Serious props to all of Order. Speaking as Destruction I really want you guys to show up and fight the good fight.
It looked like a really well coordinated and large assault. I got smoked when I showed up early to scout it out before Destruction rallied. Good job on getting in to and taking our keep.
It was some great fun and I’m looking forward to much more.
Manic, i live in the uk but play on wolfenburg. its easy to sort out just buy a us cd key from a site in america, download the open beta from various places online and update to it using said cd key.
