Our WAR Open Beta Server is…

CHRACE!

Tyrion queues were too much according to those who woke up at the crack of dawn to play so our guild and community rolled characters on Chrace Server for the preview weekend / Open Beta.  If anyone wishes to join us on Chrace feel free to visit our community forums and introduce yourself or simply message one of our members in-game and they’ll point you in the right direction.

Our guild should be formed on Chrace within the hour.

I’ll be online as “Keenorc” … creative, I know.  Feel free to message me anytime and say hi.

UPDATE #1:  Guild is formed.   Message Keenorc, Bartlebe, or Khaos for an invite.

  • Are the High Res textures loaded?
When I play Sunday (yes, I drank the kool aid, as Bildo has convinced with the “right” arguments), I hope to see better than the 1999 graphics I have seen.
I do NOT expect AoC or Vanguard, blah, blah.
But, I expect better than what I HAVE seen.
(Also, should be an indicator of how laggy the game will be at High Res)

    Cheers

  • The graphics are great. If you don’t like stylized graphics though, save yourself and others the trouble and skip this game. 😉

  • I did not state my issue with “stylized” graphics.
I enjoy WoWs graphics, so this is not the issue.

I see mud when I look at videos and screenshots.

I can only assume based off of that terrific answer that it is a No.

    Thank you

  • The game does not have “1999 graphics,” and if you enjoy WoW’s visuals, I don’t see how Warhammer’s would be a problem since they are a step above. The graphic design is optimal for a game intending to animate 40+ players at a time.

  • Openedge, WoW looks horribly simple imo.

Warhammer looks way better.. snap out of your addiction for a while.

  • I refered to WoWs graphics as “stylized’ not that they were “better” than WAR.

But, WoW does look a sight better with lighting, which WAR is missing.
    Details, which WAR is missing.
This is the reason for the Mud and 1999 comment. The graphics have an EQ feel to them texture wise.

But, I did get my answer from another blog, and some new sliders and higher res textures have been enabled.

  • Vanguard graphics look terrible. I like WAR more than EQ2, Vanguard or WoW myself, especially once you force some higher settings in the control panel of your graphics card.

  • @Ender

There is no doubt that the models in Vanguard I think are probably the worst I have ever seen in a game using today’s technology.
The mobs look cool though, and landscapes are LOTRO quality (which happens to have some of the best of those…)
But, then LOTROs models are also not my favorite. Blah.
But, when I saw WARs Witch Hunter, I so love the screenies for that…even with the mud.

I just prefer some lighting in my visuals is all.
Can’t wait to see that in action.

  • Talisman crafting is finally in, although the NPC doesn’t say “Talisman” above his head. Instead it says “Hedge Wizard” (at least in the Chaos zone).

As for frame rates, I basically have to turn everything off except for characters and effects which I set to Balanced. Even then, the frame rates aren’t that great for a P4 3.4Ghz, ATI 4850 HD, and 3GB RAM. Is it asking too much to get a solid 30fps in combat with almost everything off? I mean 30fps is what I’d consider a low minimum, yet I’ve heard people with more powerful machines seemingly happy they are getting 30 fps. Weird.

All in all, my machine would run WoW very smoothly now, yet in WAR it still seems to be chugging. Not sure if this still due to the graphics issues they mentioned before with certain cards.

As for which in-game graphics are better, don’t think you can say one is better than the other, since they both are different visual styles. I love the palette of WoW but I also like the harder more realistic edge to the graphics in WAR as well. I mean my Chosen in battle armor looks pretty realistic and amazing, especially in the right lighting.

  • @ everyone who thinks WOW’s graphics suck.

You are mistaken. That game has the BEST graphics of an MMO to date. If you think AOC graphics are nice and appealing, you are also mistaken. Games with higher poly counts dont make it NICER. It makes the game run like butt. Furthermore, aoc is the uggliest game I have ever seen. I played all the way through that game to 80 twice, and the entire thing is boring, colorless, and has too many NORMAL maps (normal maps are what makes the detail in higher detail games).

Any smart game company’s industry standard for appeal is WOW. Why? Because the game is beautiful. Sure the models are simple. But what they nail is this….the ENTIRE world is FULL OF COLOR. The textures are very saturated and full of greens, blues, reds, purples, you name it.

Games like Aoc, or Gears of War look like modern day tech. crap. They are technology driven, and are “monochromatic,” meaning one color and boring to look at.

So far, I am confused with WAR’s graphical look, because some screen shots look great, and others look horrible (lacking the colors). What is going on with the textures/shaders in this game?

Oh, and a question, can I get into beta today, if I got the codes from my pre order, and have not been part of a beta previously?

  • “Furthermore, aoc is the uggliest game I have ever seen. I played all the way through that game to 80 twice and the entire thing is boring” yes it is awful. Why play through to 80 twice then? Forgive me if I dont take you too seriously then.

  • @Nollind

    NOOooooo…don’t say that?
I wonder if it is another “Made for Nvidia” game that they ignored ATI’s for?
I have a 4870 which walks all over my other Nvidia’s here at my home. But, to hear a game whose graphics are not “high tech” (I could get 60 FPS in AoC for example, 85% of the time) having frame rate issues?

This does not sound quite right…

    Hope they fix that.

  • @Creep

I was going through a stage of built up depression and lack of fun (was in school for 4 yrs, and needed a break). I dont play many games, or own many, and AoC was the only game I had, so therefore I am going to play it. Secondly, I had a character on pve first, but wanted to see what pvp was like.

  • @yunk

if you ever see bartlebe, feel free to go for him. according to him we disciple of khaines don’t cut it so we’re boycutting healing him ^^

  • That was one of my first Scenarios. Run up the ramp in Ekrund, three hits later I was dead to Keenorc. And they say healing/tanking isn’t absolutely retardedly OP in Tier 1 😛

Oh well. Got some of the HFGs back later on my Swordmaster with Havelock holding down the heals.

  • Healing/tanking is definitely OP in Tier 1. No doubt about it! And my healers were DoK’s… (Who did and do amazing, much love to my Dark Elven brothren!!) I tremble to think of how much better we would have done with Zealots healing and always loathe the Runepriest/Ironbreaker combos.

  • Has anyone had trouble with their Beta codes from Amazon.com? They gave me two, neither of which work when I go to fileplanet to download the client. It says it’s invalid or has already been used.

  • If you look at your screenshot there are a dozen healers on your team 😛 We literally never saw your health bar drop below 90%. For a game that has a limit or counter to almost everything, it amazes me there is no anti-healing out of the box.

I’m so glad I decided to go Ironbreaker for launch. I can’t imagine playing a DPS in RvR waiting for Tier 2+ to hope that I have a chance. And what I’ve seen of Tier 2, DPS doesn’t get that much better.

All this talk about how Bright Wizards own Tier 1… I just don’t see it happening outside of the first few minutes the servers are up.

  • BW’s don’t own T1 – not at all. Bright Wizards start owning T2+ and semi balance out T4 but still remain ruthless bringers of mass destruction.

And yeah, my success = the work of my magnificent friends. All them get the credit there.
