Nintendo of America tweeted two days ago a huge announcement:

The wording of the announcement is important: “FIRST CONSOLE”

ConcernedApe, the sole developer of Stardew Valley, clarified the announcement for those who missed the crucial wording. PC version will be the first to obtain multiplayer, but the Switch will be the first console. Once the PC master race players put their pitch forks away, things returned to normal.

I’m super excited for a couple of reasons. First, I’m a Stardew Valley fan and I’ve been meaning to go back and play now that there are so many updates. Second…. multiplayer. I think Stardew Valley was made to be a multiplayer game right from the beginning. There’s so much to do in-game and so many ways in which multiple people would enhance (yet not trivialize) the content that it makes tons of sense. And last, the type of multiplayer has me hoping that there’s a local and an online. Local multiplayer would be great so that my wife and I could have our own farm, and online multiplayer would be super cool so that Graev and I can each have a farm.

The Switch’s mobility totally lends itself to carrying my Switch over to Graev’s place so we can play together. The local play where you take the Joycon off and share the screen makes sense that it would work too. I’m excited by the possibilities!
