An update on my PotBS Predicament

I’ve had some really bad luck lately. I’ve lost 4 ships in the past 3 days and run myself aground economically by spending myself into a hole and lacking the means of climbing out. I tried to avoid the economy play as much as possible but reality slapped me in the face. Reality is a cruel mistress; relentless and unforgiving. It’s because of this rude awakening that I’ve changed my playstyle in order to adapt.

Thanks to my friends I have a slight discount on ship outfittings. This should allow me to carefully spend my way to a single decent ship and use that to carefully work my way back into existence. I spent most of the day today hunting very small groups of ships my level instead of running the risk of possibly overextending. If the risk outweighs the rewards in PotBS then I need to do everything in my power to make that risk as small as possible. I’ve decided not to spend money on anything but the necessities. I don’t need speed sails to hunt NPC ships nor do I need hull upgrades. Simple reload upgrades and general upgrades that I have already will do. I’m not going to PvP unless absolutely necessary. Sadly, seeking fights is foolish right now. I’ll have to accept that.

As for my economy situation I’ve decided to go one of two routes. Right now I have teak and lignum vitae lumber camps. I’m trying to sell teak logs and lignum vitae blocks to turn a profit. I’m not getting any bites there sadly. My ideal goal would be to eventually earn enough to expand out into the Brass Ship Fittings business since it seems to be a very underutilized niche right now. If that falls through then one of my friends in the game has offered to let me supply leather to him full time which would give me a smaller but steady and reliable income. I’ll likely be updating you all on this later.

For now I’m taking things slow.
