This year was a great one for games. Mario Odyssey was our game of the year with Breath of the Wild coming in really close. We had lots of fun with games like Assassin's Creed Origins, Battlefront 2, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. With so many great games comes the sad reality of opportunity cost. There are games we just have to forgo simply because of time.
This year, the games I skipped are really pretty good. In no particular order, here's what was added to my "must play backlog" this year:
1. Horizon Zero Dawn
2. Divinity Original Sin 2
3. Halo Wars 2
4. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
I tried to narrow the list down to games I didn't even try, and funny enough some of these games I even purchased already.
I'm proud of myself for not buying a single game on the Steam sales this year. I still haven't touched some of the "Steam Sale Backlog" which I separate from my "Must-Play Backlog". It just gets too overwhelming otherwise. I like to rationalize and pretend it matters.
Oh, and there's also the "bought and played once but need to keep playing backlog" that I'm really hurting on right now too: Pokemon Ultra Moon, Skyrim Switch, etc. It's bad.
Did you add any games to your must-play backlog this year? How's your backlog look in general? Out of control and daunting like mine?
