Kunark on the way but what to play?

Gnobby the Gnome Conjuror is well on his way to 30. This afternoon I managed to gain at least three levels and push Gnobby up to level 28. So far the Conjuror is performing just slightly under what I had hopes for and anticipated. I was hoping for an overwhelmingly easy time soloing evens/yellows but it turns out I might have been a little too hopeful. Right now my Conj is able to take out evens and yellows but there is downtime and too much effort involved to chain pull let alone try and take two at a time that aren’t grouped. In the Butcherblock Mountains I am on a series of quests to kill these bugbears. They are packed so dang tight that I have trouble not getting 2 or even sometimes three at a time. A few deaths later I got frustrated and logged. It’s also worth mentioning I burned through the entire Fallen Gate today and some of Ruins of Varsoon. Overall a decent dungeon crawling evening.

I’ve known all along that my goal is going to be playing a Sarnak in Kunark. I want to experience the game from the “new” race’s perspective but now I’m trying to decide which class I’m going to play. I’m one of those people who do not like to give soloing a ton of effort. If I’m soloing I want it to be casual, easy, and nothing that I have to focus all my attention on. With the Conj I feel like if I look away fro a second I might die (I’m so squishy). I’ve been giving the Shadowknight, Bruiser, and Necromancer some serious thought. The SK I hear is a good tank and can solo well, the Bruiser I hear is just fun, and the Necromancer would satisfy my love for pet classes (and news out there says that Necros will out damage conjurors big time after Kunark.) Ugh! The choices! Any advice out there my fellow EQ2’ers? Which Evil classes could be fun? Keep in mind I love to solo and finding a group when I want one is always a plus.

Much thinking to be done…

  • Given the Sarnaks alleged (or is it confirmed?) racial melee/range crit bonus I am leaning toward a melee class such as Bruiser, SK, or Brigand. It’s a tough choise for me because I have tried all three in regular EQ2 and like them all. I might lean toward the Brigand because of all the extras it gets such as movement speed, tracking, and evac.

  • Know much about the Bruiser? Are they are bad as some people say they are? According to some they aren’t really welcomed later in levels in groups/raids because they aren’t a “Guard/zerker” tank or a “scout” dps. The idea of a Bruiser sounds really appealing to me with SK coming in a close second.

  • My buddy and I started SK and Necro alts for that very reason Keen – we heard that they were pretty darn good solo, and it will be interesting to see how they duo. If you are going to mostly solo with grouping occasionally, from what I’ve heard those two classes are pretty decent choices.
