Warhammer Online July Newsletter is here!

I’ve never spoken about my passion for the Warhammer Online Age of Reckoning monthly Newsletters.  Back when I first signed up for them I looked at it as nothing more than a boost to my chances of getting into the beta.  However, for the past few months I have looked at the Newsletters more as fixes for this addiction of mine.  I am getting really hyped about WAR to the point of refreshing my inbox when I hear that the newsletters have been sent out.  Pathetic or passionate – I’ll let you decide.

This month’s Newsletter brings an interesting look into the design process of the Empire city of Altdorf.  This imagery really too my imagination for a ride: “Beyond the palace, the streets of Altdorf are lined with blocks of tall, aging row houses that have been built up and onto repeatedly with each passing generating.  On the winding streets, merchants peddle their wares including various sundries, weaponry, “rat on a stick” snacks, apothecary leeches, and anything else that will fetch a price.”  Doesn’t that draw you in and make you want to actually visit the city?  I’m sold.  Altdorf will be the glory of all the Empire has at their disposal…everything from rats and beggars tobright wizard college refuse on the streets.  Glory? HAHAHA! (Can you tell I’m a Greenskin at heart?)

The Newsletter also featured a beta journal highlighting the experiences of one dwarf player, the monthly podcast, and the video of the month.  For me the video was a bit of a let down because it featured nothing but recycled footage from alpha.  I’m not sure if their intention was to showcase the best of alpha or to just give you that “ooo ahh cool” feeling.  I did gawk at it for a bit but it left me wanting more.  The podcast was another surprise and why is that you ask?  This time it was fully narrated by Paul Barnett (not a bad thing – we love Paul!) and featured an artist whose name escapes me drawing the Bright Wizard College in Altdorf.  Apparently if you want to get something amazing out of an artist tell them their first work was rubbish and they’ll make you something utterly breathtaking.

Oh! I almost forgot that this month’s Newsletter also brought us information on the Marauder!  These guys look vicious and something even my bloodthirsty goblin would run from.  From the Marauder info: “Once mutated, you will have access to numerous powerful abilities that will enable you to smash, slice, rend and crush your enemies.”  Yeah those blasphemous mutations sound awesome.

Well that’s what stood out to me this month.  There’s more, plenty more in fact, for you to enjoy so open that email and get to it!  Oh and PS Mythic I didn’t get an invite … again.

  • I have visited the game site, looked at things and wondered what the game will be like. No beta invite for me yet either but I know I’ll get one soon. The game does have potential I’ll admit. Their web site is alright but it seems to be incomplete. It does not explain things fully like the LOTRO site did, which gave out plenty of information once closed beta kicked in. I am hoping once the beta moves along they’ll update the web site as well. I played DAOC primarily because of the RvR system. I wonder how Mythic will upgrade the RvR system with their new creation. I can’t wait to create a chaos character and level them in the RvR world.

  • Mythic has always been one for leaving the information and website stuff to fansites and the community. I’m not sure why… I would also like more info on their site.

The RVR system and the different mechanics they are incorporating are going to revolutionize RVR and PVP in my opinion. It’s going to be on hell of a good game.
