EQ2 Frostfell

I finally had the opportunity to get some gaming time in on Everquest 2 this weekend. While I haven’t been particularly busy it’s felt extra difficult to dedicate a block of time towards leveling. For those who have experienced Frostfell in EQ2 over the past few years none of this will seem interesting or new to you since SOE apparently doesn’t change these quests from year to year. But it’s new to me so time to share.

Frostfell is EQ2’s Christmas. Similar to WoW and many of the other virtual worlds out there the name has been changed to perhaps include more than just those who celebrate Xmas. While the name may be different, the decorations and themes are a dead giveaway. Upon logging in on Khek I found Gorowyn to be decorated in colored candycanes, ribbons, presents, and baskets of snowballs. At the bottom of Gorowyn there was this big Christmas tree with a few goblins standing next to it. Moving in to investigate further I found a closet not far away that doubled as a magical portal to Frostfell Christmas Land (or whatever they call it). When I entered in I was met with what looked like a magical winter wonderland with snowmen, flying reindeer, goblins dressed like elves, presents, and one friggin enormous Christmas tree.

Gathering up a few quests I stumbled upon EQ2’s rendition of Scrooge. When I started the quest I possessed the body of McScroogle and was visited the three spirits past present and future. With a hillarious twist on the classic I was able to chat with these quest npc’s and say things that the normal scrooge wouldn’t. I told my girlfriend from my past that I was moving on to bigger things and I was leaving her behind. I gave the Kritchat family a Turkey dinner and Tiny Jim got a bottle of Scotch from my private reserves. And in the future I was stumbling through a maze of my future where everyone talked about my death and Tiny Jim told me of the life he would have had if not for my greed.

I haven’t enjoyed a MMO Christmas event quite like this one. Kudos to the devs for making it a pleasurable time in Frostfell. Oh, and Khek is wearing a red and green set of overalls with a red santa hat. Totally bizarre for a Sarnak, but cool nonetheless!
