Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos in Blizzard’s Website stunt – Day 5!

Can RTS games get any better? Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos and its expansion The Frozen Throne have been, in my opinion, the greatest Real-time strategy games ever created. I guess I say that a lot since I said it about StarCraft as well but it’s true! Blizzard’s strategy games have been and always will be the pinnacle of success in the genre. Allowing players to control Human, Orc, Undead, and Night Elves allowed for the first time four unique races with four campaigns in single player! Graev was always into the single player aspect of the Warcraft series and I was always into the multiplayer. It wasn’t until about a year ago that I actually reinstalled the games and played the entire campaign from start to finish – including the expansion. Wow.. I was so missing out!

Now let me clarify something before I boast about the great lore. Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne were before World of Warcraft, thank god. Since these games were before WoW they actually had solid lore and story to them. I felt sucked in every time I played. The in-game-engine cut scenes gave the series a special touch. What made Warcraft 3 even ten times better was the implementation of a ladder system through Bnet. The face lift and functionality boost to Bnet allowed players to have everything they could ever want right on one interface. An automatic matching system, arranged teams, custom games, random teams, the list goes on.

However time is the ultimate enemy. It was only a matter of time before something had to knock the Warcraft name down a few pegs. Tomorrow is Day 5 and it brings with it one of the greatest enemies the MMO genre has ever seen.
