What are you guys all playing this weekend? If I had to guess, I bet a lot of you are playing God of War. That’s the latest, hot and trending release, right?
I let Graev pick it up, and I’m waiting on his feedback. At that point I’ll probably just borrow it from him to play on my own.
This weekend I’m playing mostly PixARK. I’m pretty much level 70, which means I have 10 more levels to squeeze out before I have access to all of the engrams I want.
I’m working on building a really neat underground base. I’m going to have switches to activate platforms, lights, auto-defense turrets, etc. I’m even going to have a cool cliff-side area where I can deploy flying dinos and dock them when I’m not using them.
I’m also going to have some cool lifts and elevator systems to lower me down into this massive cavern we have below our base with lots of neat creatures.
The end-game is a mystery to me. Maybe we’re almost to the end-game? Maybe there are world bosses I haven’t found? Still exploring that side of things as I play. My bronto base is in the works as well, but I’m going to finish that once my main base is finished.
Let me know what you’re playing!
I was talking with the guys on our PixARK server today about my plans for what I want to do next in the game.
I've decided I want to build a base on the back of a brontosaurus! That has always been a goal of mine, even before I bought the game, but now it's time to make this a reality.
How's that going to happen? Well, on our server the brontos are on a different continent. That means we'll have to tame some massive manta-dino and strap a platform on its back. Then we'll have to tame a bronto and walk it onto that platform, and 'sail' it back to our continent.
The title of this post pretty much says it all. According to Steam I’ve put in 53 hours into PixARK so far, and it really feels like I haven’t scratched the surface.
Progression was really slow at first. We were surviving (well, mostly) with spears and wood logs. We were running from just about every monster imagineable. Then we started taming some dinos. It started slow with Ptero, which basically allowed us to mow down bunny rabbits. Then it grew to bigger game.
Using our strategy of carrying a player in the Ptero’s claws, we advanced to taming Argentavis. Those bigger birds basically allowed us to protect ourselves against most predators who might wander into our area, but most important to hunt things like Gem Spiders and other monsters in that tier. From there, it was only a few days until we were in the big game.
I was suuuuper excited to learn that I could pick people up using the talons on my Pteranodon! When I discovered this was possible, we quickly put it to work for us.
By picking up my friends, we were able to kite the Argentavis! These massive birds are extremely aggressive, and really dangerous under normal circumstances. As you can see pictured above, we used a Pteranodon to keep the Argentavis just out of striking range while the guy being carried pummels it with sleeping darts.
Some clever kiting around our base usually landed those birds sleeping in a safe spot after about 20 arrows.
We were able to tame a small army of them, and even leveled off a few of them in order to make the Argentavis saddles.
I'm having lots of fun figuring out lots of unorthodox ways of surviving this treacherous dinosaur world.
I thought it would be cool to show you guys where we're at with our PixARK server. A couple of our Keen and Graev Community members haven't picked up the game yet, or are on the fence, so this will act as a a little bit of bait to lure them in.
The video is the gist of it all and speaks plenty for itself, but here's a quick rundown.
PixARK is my new favorite game. It's like the uldimate sandbox experience, combining Minecraft with Dinosaurs and all sorts of building and gadget stuff that I enjoy.
We have a server for the Keen and Graev Community going. Definitely let me know if you want to join us! We would love to have you.
I want to share some of the progress I'm making.
Yesterday I highlighted PixARK for you guys and told you that I’d probably end up getting it. Well, I did. Oh, and in case you missed the update, PixARK -IS- coming to Nintendo Switch later this year!
PixARK is basically ARK in voxel format with some voxel type gameplay. What does that mean in english? It’s like ARK but has Minecraft tendencies. Further dumbing that down: It’s ark with breakable blocks.
I only played about 2 hours, but I’m already seeing the long-term potential for this to become my “go-to sandbox long-term game” with Graev. We’ve been looking for one of those games we can ‘work on’ together with base building, exploring, hunting, progress, etc.
Although I'm fairly interested in trying out ARK: Survival Evolved on the Nintendo Switch in the Fall, I have to admit that ARK has always been a disappointment for me when I try to play.
Something about the game is too complex, too involved, too daunting, too intensive on my PC, and too... just aggravating for me.
Maybe that'll be different with this version of ARK...
It's called PixARK, and it looks like a Minecraft version of ARK.
