EQ2 Adventure Log and a “what I’ve been up to lately”

It’s been a few days since our last blog entry and I have a good reason, I promise! I’ve been playing Everquest 2 and astonishingly … Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne customs. I’ll start with the latter because I’m still surprised I’ve actually been playing it. Defense of the Ancients is the most popular WC3 Custom map out there and for good reason. It’s downright addicting and fun! Graev and I being in the same room playing together really gives us an unfair advantage that we exploit to it’s fullest potential. DOTA has been our filler for the times when playing anything else seems dull.Delbert

Now onto the EQ2 Adventure log. Frob and Froob the Ogre brothers are now level 16/17 and can kill most things with little trouble. We’ve started to run into problems keeping the mobs from beating on us and that causes problems being that we are both squishy. So aside from those problems the characters are really fun and have great potential. Graev, being the avid console gamer he is, usually bounces comfortably between games much more than I am capable. So finding myself with lots of free time I have decided to create a little character I can solo and group with on my own. After quite a bit of research and soul searching I created a Ratonga Brigand! His name is Delbert which fits him nicely. I’m confused about something though… he kills faster than the Fury and Coercer Ogre brothers combined. Is that normal?

I have a lot of time on my hands lately and I expect Delbert will quickly rise in levels beyond Frob and become my main. Not a bad thing I suppose. The Antonia Bayle server seems to have a shortage of Brigands so perhaps I will get groups easily – that’s always a plus. I’m looking for advice or tips on how to make the most of my Brigand so feel free to leave a comment or email me because I would love any help I can get.

More to come later as Delbert, Frob, and Froob level up!

Blizzard files a federal lawsuit against a gold farming company…

Once again while browsing various message boards I have come across a topic worth discussing. Blizzard has filed a federal lawsuit against “Peons4hire” which is apparently a “Popular gold-selling organization.” Seriously who out there has heard about this company or any of its subsidiaries? Anyone? No I didn’t think so. “Peons4hire” apparently has been spamming in-game ads to players for some time and Blizzard has ordered a cease of all in-game activities or further legal action will be taken.

So why sue Peons4hire simply because they spam in-game ads? You have companies out there like IGE that bring in millions of dollars in revenue and they go untouched. They advertise freely over the entire internet in google ads, big flashy banners, and they once again go untouched. So I ask again why is it that Blizzard deems Peons4hire such a threat? I have an opinion on this and if you can’t tell by my tone already I’m quite cynical on the topic. It’s my firm belief that this is nothing more than a “look at us!” PR stunt to appease the masses in their game for the masses. They know Peons4hire is too small to have any financial clout and thus can not and will not even put up a fight. Simply put Blizzard is too afraid to take on a corporation that might win against them and they dare not have bad press.

Heck with me posting this blog I am giving them exactly what they want. They want this is get out there and be seen by people. But honestly I needed to get this out and hopefully others will see it the way I have. Hopefully others will see this for what it is and not for what it’s being masked to look like.

Cuppycake.org and CommonSenseGamer.com make a podcast!

That’s right our favorite bloggers have stepped out beyond the text joined the world of audio entertainment! While I listen to their podcast I’ll be blogging my thoughts and opinions on the topics and hopefully it all makes sense in the end. You can find their podcast here.

Okay! In their, what I hope to be first of many podcasts, Cuppy and Darren start off by giving us the news on what they’re currently playing. As expected they are playing exactly what Graev and I are playing – Everquest 2 and the new Neriak content! They go on and talk about Mistwalkers (the best guild out there!) and how it’s one big happy collection of players looking for a place to hang. Not only will you find many famous bloggers there but you’ll get to meet and know hundreds of wonderful people.

Next on their agenda they talk about Vanguard and the SOE take over. We all know the news that’s been looming over the gaming community about SOE and Sigil and the podcast doesn’t go deeply into it but Cuppy and Darren do a great job at highlighting the situation with the game, the takeover, and Mr. McQuaid. They really hit the nail on the head when they discussed Brad’s posting behavior on the forums. Why McQuaid went on and on about the exact same thing from different angles is beyond me and I can see I’m not alone now.

Okay on to an interesting topic. EQ2 vs. WoW… If you’re a repeat visitor to our Blog here you know I hate WoW – I’ll come out and say it. It’s fairly easy to sum up booming success of WoW and the moderate success of EQ2. Cuppy touched on this and I’m in full agreement. EQ2 had a horrible launch and WoW had a great launch. WoW caters to the masses in both handholding gameplay and system specs and EQ2 doesn’t. WoW is in the Asian market and EQ2 isn’t. EQ2 has just a negative vibe in the majority of the gaming community and that’s keeping so many players away… not that we would want them in EQ2 anyway because honestly as Darren put it – the community in WoW sucks.

Cuppy and Darren give us their thoughts on the latest Blizzard Announcement. While they aren’t too excited about StarCraft 2 I think I can forgive them – maybe. At least Blizzard isn’t making another MMO right now and honestly even thoughts of a Diablo MMO make me feel ill. And while I do agree that the game looks extremely similar to it’s predecessor I can’t help but get sucked in with their cinematic cutscenes – that’s something Blizzard will always get me on.

The podcast goes on to talk about LOTRO gripes, various bloggers such as Sanya Weathers, and ends with discussion on ideas for future guest hosts and topics of discussion aka Themes of the Week. I won’t bore you all here with any more since I highly recommend you give the entire podcast a listen. It’s a long one clocking in at just over an hour but it’s all worth it.

Cuppycake.org and CommonSenseGamer.com are both fantastic blogs and if you aren’t already a regular reader then you should become one. Great job on your first podcast you two and I can’t wait to hear more!

Keen and Graev do Everquest 2!

Well with some but not much convincing Graev picked up his copy of Everquest 2!  The thought of playing EQ2 again was exciting but now the thought of having a person to duo and experience it with is just too cool.  In the spirit of playing together I shelved Rargh and created Frob, the Ogre Fury to play along with Froob the Ogre Coercer!  An interesting duo there is no doubt.  So far we have reached level 10(almost 11!) and purchased our apartments in Neriak.  We aren’t sure what’s causing it but we experience some incredibly odd skippy lag in the city and can’t seem to figure out why.  Anywhere else in the game is lag free with high FPS until we zone in.  So until it’s resolved we shall avoid our homes like the plague!
Froob and Frob

We hope to see the world of Norrath one step at a time and have a blast.  If you’re ever out and about and need a Fury and Coercer we’re your ogres.

Meet Rargh the Ogre Fury! I decided to pick up EQ2 lastnight from BestBuy and luckily they had a copy of the Echoes of Faydwer in stock. The box came with all the expansions and the original game so that was fantastic news (No clue where my old info is). So I created a new account today and decided a support class that can solo is the way I want to go! A druid with heals and dps is quite convenient so I went with that. For the race I decided I wanted to be something unique and “odd” so I went with Ogre. Yep I’m probably the only Ogre Fury on Antonia Bayle.

Cuppycake called me ugly. 🙁 What do you think?

I’m lucky enough to now belong to Mistwalkers, a rather large and very friendly guild. My goals with EQ2 this time around are simple. I want to work my way through the content at a very comfortable rate and hopefully end up raiding something casually. The biggest mistake that I made last time through was not taking the time to smell the roses and enjoy the finer points of the game like player housing, roleplaying, and group content.

If you’re on the Antonia Bayle Server look me up! I’m always up for a group for anything.
