Comparing gear using SimulationCraft
« on: November 06, 2016, 08:51:43 AM »
You need http://www.simulationcraft.org/ and the ingame addon https://mods.curse.com/addons/wow/simulationcraft

I will also assume you generally know how to use simulationcraft (simcraft).

To compare gear you've probably realized you could do a sim, switch the piece of gear out, recopy the entire profile, and sim again. But what if you want to bunch of trinkets in one go? artifact relics? talents? That is where the copy command comes in.

You start by grabbing your baseline profile from in game using /simc (addon required).

Code: [Select]
shaman="Bagelsnacks"
level=110
race=dwarf
region=us
server=fenris
role=attack
professions=herbalism=348/enchanting=149
talents=3213112
spec=enhancement
artifact=41:0:0:0:0:899:1:900:1:901:1:902:1:903:1:904:1:905:3:907:3:909:3:910:3:911:3:912:3:913:1:1351:1

head=,id=141420,bonus_id=1477/3336
neck=,id=139239,enchant_id=5439,bonus_id=1807/1472
shoulder=,id=139703,enchant_id=5883,bonus_id=3385/3384
back=,id=142215,enchant_id=5435,bonus_id=3453/1492/3337
chest=,id=134302,bonus_id=3396/1512/3337
tabard=,id=118365
wrist=,id=137084,bonus_id=1811/3458
hands=,id=138214,enchant_id=5444,bonus_id=1805/1487
waist=,id=134251,bonus_id=3410/1808/1512/3336,gem_id=130218
legs=,id=139215,bonus_id=1807/1477/3336
feet=,id=141432,bonus_id=1477/3336
finger1=,id=142173,enchant_id=5429,bonus_id=1808/3453/1472,gem_id=130218
finger2=,id=134534,enchant_id=5425,bonus_id=3410/1512/3337
trinket1=,id=137312,bonus_id=3411/1808/1507/3336,gem_id=130218
trinket2=,id=141482,bonus_id=1472
main_hand=,id=128819,bonus_id=745,relic_id=3412:1512:3336/3452:1472/3474:1507:1674,gem_id=136769/142177/143697/0
off_hand=,id=128873,relic_id=0/0,gem_id=0/0/0/0

If you ran the sim now, this would give you one dps number for your current gear/artifact/talent setup. To start adding some comparisons we use copy. After the baseline profile, add copy= with whatever you want to name your comparison. In my example I want to see what would happen if I switched out my trinket1 (nightmare egg) for a shock baton.

Code: [Select]
copy=840_shock_baton
After the copy, I tell simcraft what I want to replace in this copy simulation. Since I have the 2nd trinket, I can equip it in the 1st trinket slot, do /simc again, and only copy the trinket1 line from the profile. I paste that in after the copy line and end up with this:

Code: [Select]
copy=840_shock_baton
trinket1=,id=140030,bonus_id=3473/1492/1674

What if I want to compare a trinket I dont have? I go to Wowhead, look up the trinket, and select whatever options I want. In this example I'm doing an 860 Bloodthirsty Instinct. Once you have your ilvl set, look at the URL.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=139329/bloodthirsty-instinct&spec=263&bonus=1482:1807

The number after item= is the id that simcraft needs and the stuff after bonus= is the bonus info simcraft needs to know its 860 item level. I use this info to add another copy to my simulation. Notice in the bonus numbers I replaced the colon with slashes.

Code: [Select]
copy=860_bloodthirsty_instinct
trinket1=,id=139329,bonus_id=1482/1807

After I've got all my copies setup, I can run the simulation. At the top of the report I get this ordered lists that shows my trinket comparisons. The one named "Bagelsnacks" is my baseline profile against which I'm comparing.

You can use this same copy command to compare anything in the profile. Other slots, talents using the talent command, relics using main_hand, etc.
