Wii U and Kids Meals Too

Wii U Burger King Kids Meal
The Wii U Burger King Kids Meal has a toy and nifty Nintendo activities on the box.

It’s Saturday, and that means the Wii U comes out tomorrow!

We’re starting to panic a little.  Gamespot’s ZombiU review leaked early, and their score isn’t very good — a 4.5 out of 10!  Not that we put a lot of stock into reviews from sites like these, but that’s such a low score that it’s giving us Red Steel flashbacks.  ZombiU is one of the most hyped Wii U launch titles.  As a result of this news, we’re now seriously contemplating whether or not we’re going to get ZombiU or hold off.  We don’t want to pick up only one game tomorrow (New Super Mario Bros. U) because that’s underwhelming for a console release.  Scribblenauts and Nintendo Land appear to be getting decent reviews, maybe that will suffice.

Wii U Burger King Kids Meal Gamepad Toy
The Gamepad is cheap, but neat for a kids meal toy.

On a somewhat lighter yet unhealthier note, we saw a commercial for Wii U themed kids meals at Burger King, and obviously had to go check it out.  The six piece chicken tenders and fries were tasty, but left us wanting.  The toy that came with it is a Wii U gamepad inspired pinball type ball snapper.  There’s no strategy to it at all given how flimsily the balls stay on the platforms, but it’s a nifty kids meal toy.  We tend to collect these types of things — our bookshelf has many tchotchke toys for Nintendo and other games.

Are any of you going to a midnight release?  The Toys R Us we have ours pre-ordered at won’t give them out until 8:00am. Whenever we finally get it all set up and play the games a bit we’ll be sure to let any of you holding out know which ones are a bust.

  • It’s too early to tell for me, but I really -want- to want one. If they gave more details about upcoming games like the Wii U Animal Crossing, a Harvest Moon game, or some kind of multiplayer RPG I’d be all over it.

I’m really hoping that both developers and Nintendo take advantage of everything this system can do instead of me just sitting here dreaming of all the better ideas they could be doing instead.

With that, other things that would get my attention:
-A Dungeons and Dragons-esque game with pre-made campaigns and tools to make your own and host them online with friends.

-The next Mario Party game, or heck let’s throw in some other board games: Settlers of Catan, Clue, Call of Cthulu maybe?

-A Magic the Gathering-esque game, maybe something reminiscent of Lost Kingdoms?

-Make a Pokemon MMO Nintendo, seriously. You keep giving yourself more and more tools to do it, but never make a move on it. Fans are -clamoring- for this!

    Get on this stuff, Nintendo!

  • I would only get a Wii U if there was a new Zelda game. The guy from my local Gamestop calls the system “an HD Wii with a touch screen controller.”

  • A multiplayer RPG could be great on the Wii U. You can easily avoid burying the main screen in menu scroll since each player will have their own in their controller. The catch is that the RPG has to be GOOD.

  • If Nintendo really wanted to earn big bucks, they should make a Pokemon MMO on the pc.
Seriously… Catch em all. Like the gameboy series, but 3rth person.

Begin with the 151 original pokemon and add more over time.

BAttles with random Pokemon. Battle your friends or strangers. Guild Pokemon battles. All kind of contests and side activities. PVE content like the elite4. And ooh yes an actual Pokemon stadium tournament. Perhaps with different rules every time to keep it it interesting.

They better not be selling pokeflutes to get past Snorlax with a message like “this is as far as F2P goes.. buy a damn flute”

    Pokemon.. because, well Pokemon!

  • I never buy a console new as the games take awhile to catch up so this is no exception. Maybe in 9 mths i’ll take a look and get it in a year if it has proved itself but otherwise I’ll pass.

  • I’m with Goom on this one: I bought all my consoles 1+ years after launch and never touched the Wii and never saw a decent game on that thing in it’s lifetime.

I have absolutely no interest in the Wii U, beyond seeing how other companies improve on whatever perceived controller innovations there are.

  • @poohbum: Yeah, we’re taking our time with it to really give it a good review. We want to be able to provide our readers with a frame of reference they may not be finding at the bigger review sites.

@Goom: Wii U is very much worth it. We haven’t done an overall Wii U review, but I have no problem saying that I enjoy the heck out of it already. Plenty of good games with many more on their way before March.
