Allods Launches Tomorrow: Here’s all the info you need!

Allods Online Launches tomorrow on February 16, 2010 at 11am PST.  Some of you might be confused seeing it labeled as “open beta”.  This will be considered a soft launch.  Although it is still considered beta, and they call it that to grant themselves the ability to make changes, everything done will be for keeps.  Everything from closed beta has been wiped and the beginning for everyone is tomorrow.

This game has a hard shell to crack guarding a lot of valuable information.  I’m still dismayed by the lack of official information and clarification about certain stats, talents, and overall information regarding extremely important mechanics in the game.  The information is out there, but it is being held by people who have played the game already.  The problem right now being that gPotato and Astrum Nival are communicating a lot behind the scenes to get the game localized but we’re missing out on a lot of the intimate details from the actual developers themselves.  There is really only one way to make up for that while it’s lacking:  Player communication.  I’ll give you guys some links in a minute.

First, let’s make sure that you’re ready to play tomorrow.  The following was released today:

Hi everyone!

If you downloaded the Allods client before midnight (12am Pacific Standard Time) on Monday, February 15th, you will need to go through the following steps to make your client open beta ready. Also, if you participated in any of the closed betas, this most likely affects your client. You will not be able to update your client through the normal launcher patching process.

1. Download the Allods open beta update here: http://allods-ftp.gpotato.com/OBupdate.exe
2. Run the open beta update from any directory (be sure to close the launcher before running the update!)
3. Re-open the Allods Online launcher
4. Download the latest updates and enjoy the game! [Source]

If for some reason your version becomes corrupt, you’ll need to do a full reinstall from the client here.

Update: Patch 1.0.05.41 is now available.  91 MB patch.  Be sure to run the OBupdate.exe if you already had the client installed before updating.  The image below may no longer be relevant.

If all goes right, you should be getting this when you launch the patcher:

Do not press the patch button or run the repair utility because you will break your client.

An update was released to address the error:

“In regards to the 2.8 error, don’t worry!

This is expected and the new patch will be available for download within the next several hours.

Just be sure to run the OB update tool first.”

Once I have more information I’ll be sure to update this post for you all.

Now that you’re ready to play, I have a few more things to introduce to you.

Getting back to the lack of information, some of you are going to be very confused about what class to play, what stats do, where to go, what this or that does, etc.  If you’re not already aware, our blog has a forum community aptly named Keen and Graev’s Gaming Community.  Several of us have played to the level cap and are willing to share our information.  We didn’t level to spoil the content for ourselves but rather to learn what we can about the game so that went into this knowing that any investment of time would not be for nothing and also so that we could know what to do at launch.

Below are some resources you may find useful:

Guides Forum – Several guides and discussions about classes, world mysteries, and more.
Allods Online Discussion – Our K&G AO forum where we discuss the game and our guild.  I’m extremely bias but I think that our forums have the best AO discussion and information available in the English language.

Need a guild?  Our forum community MMO guild Happy Fun Guyz, founded in 2007, is always accepting new members.  You can learn a great deal about us from our Charter.  If you’ve ever wanted a guild that played multiple games together and one that feels more like a group of RL friends hanging out on Ventrilo, then ours is the one for you.   “That Community Feel with Hardcore Results” is a slogan I’ve come to use because we really are a community that accomplishes what you would expect from the more elitist groups.  More information is available upon request.

I hope to see many of you online tomorrow.  AO is a lot of fun.  It’s not without its issues and controversy, especially given the F2P model, but given the recent MMO launches that weren’t free it never hurts to give this one a try.

This post will receive numerous updates throughout the day.  Check back often!

  • Think I’ll give your guild a shot if you’ll take me in! I’ll be too busy partying on Frenchman St on Mardi Gras, but I’ll check in as soon as my blood alcohol levels no longer require me to file an environmental impact statement to log on…

  • Any news on server names, numbers & types? Looking fwd to finding out where “Happy Fun Guyz” will lurk so I can play on the same server perhaps for… or maybe against >;-)

Anyway, thanks for all the helpful info. Have been reading and lurking for a while now and especially your Warden info has proven very useful /cheers!

  • I am assuming Empire given Keen’s obvious distain for Gibberlings…

I have been in guilds that have strict rules concerning time spent on mains vs alts, and factions; what is HFG’s position on these points?

  • HFG is League and we’ll be on the Tensess Server.

Play your main or your alt. We honestly do not care. We find that imposing rules like that alienates people.

  • Keen said “Allods Online Launches tomorrow on February 16, 2010 at 11am PST”

So… 2pm EST if you’re an east coaster like me.

  • Haha. Really looking forward to this game. Downloading it now right from Singapore. 😀
Really cant wait to play it 😀
Hope there wont be lags from where i am playing =.=

  • Just found out about Allods Online yesterday, from what I’ve heard it’s pretty good. Only thing about the guild does it make a difference since I live in the EU?

  • I’ve been playing on the US server and not had any issues. Not sure what will happen with the CS though

  • Good thing the RSS feed doesn’t update. Installed the OBupdate over my latest CB client, game is broken, re-download and -install here I come. With my sucky bandwidth we’re talking at least 2 days… -.-
