Amazon WAR pre-orders

WAR Collector's Edition
WAR Collector's Edition

There’s a rumor circulating that Mythic may have indirectly confirmed the release date for Warhammer Online.  Due to Amazon.com’s pre-order policy where customers must confirm the change of release date or else risk having their order canceled, Mythic posted the following on the WAR Herald today:

Amazon.com Customers Check Your Pre-Order

Greetings!

Due to Amazon.com policy pre-order customers are required to re-confirm their order whenever their is a change to the products information.

Check your inbox/spam folders for the notice from Amazon.com.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Business as usual for Amazon.com.  I have received a couple of these notifications that there would be push backs or changes to the release date.  However, I received no such email notification this time.  Fearing something was wrong with my order I got on the phone with Amazon’s customer service and requested that they look into my order to make sure all was well.  According to the Amazon CSR the date listed for the Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Collector’s Edition is still September 30th.   The CSR also told me that even if the game was releasing on the 16th of September there would be no need for confirmation because Amazon does not require customers to approve having something sent to them earlier – only if it is being delayed (makes sense).  This leads me to the following questions:  Why did Mythic post what they did on the WAR Herald?

According to the Amazon CSR my order should be shipped without any problems at the appropriate time.  I’m still confused about why some people claim their order says that it will ship the 16th and some say the 30th (mine included).  Maybe I’ll send in an email this time and request that they look into it.

Did anyone else not receive an email and have September 30th listed on their order?

  • Well…

Here’s a snippet I got from Amazon last Thursday.

The item(s) listed below will actually ship sooner than we originally expected:

“Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Collector’s Edition [DVD-ROM]”

    Estimated arrival date: 09/18/2008

  • I haven’t pre-ordered yet, but this sounds like Good News more than it sounds like “The fog will kill you!” news. The big guys have said that if they released the game now, they’d be satisfied with it. People in beta say it’s quite polished, if not better. Quite a few sites are saying dates at or before the 30th…

…I guess what I’m saying is, all signs point to yes. No more delays, no more shenanigans. WAR’s already picked up some steam, and it’s about to reach the depot. You can’t stop the train, baby!

(P.S: Does saying it’s polished count as breaking NDA? If so, I guess those guys lost their keys o_O)

  • This almost sounds to me like some kind of practical joke.

“How do you drive a WAR fan crazy?
Tell him his pre-order date has changed.”

  • EB Games also has it shipping for the 16th…. Someone has to be right! We will find out soon enough.

  • Mine is still listed as October 3rd :p Amazon needs to get that sorted out before they start causing nervous breakdowns. Believe me, if it releases on the 16th and mine doesn’t ship until October I’ll freak . . .

  • Mine still had October 2nd listed.

Then I pretended to edit the shipping option. Pretended, because I kept it the same but I made it go through the edit page.

And lo and behold, now the estimate of arrival is September 19th.

Methinks the site doesn’t update itself very well. Understandable since they do A LOT of business.

  • Mine has October 6th listed for shipping, but the items page lists the 16th.

To further antagonise me, they will now ship the CE Preorder outside the States, and well Im in Ireland. Do I leave it ship free to the girlfriend or panic and fork over more cash to have it come right to me?

    Decisions decisions.

  • The answer is “How do you build hype?” Alex.

    This worked for AoC.
The whole “Miracle Patch” guaranteed massive sales. People did not realize what type of mess Funcom had waiting for them when they bought the game though..

Now, WAR has the “OMG it is shipping sooner, maybe I should just buy it NOW!!!” viral mentality going down!

    Hype sells nowadays.

    Sad.

  • Why don’t we wait until hearing it officially from Mythic? Then we can gripe to our retailers if their dates are off the “official” release date?

I bought mine through EA store and haven’t heard a peep from them in months. I’m not too concerned I guess.

  • Play.com even has 1/9/2008 (september, it’s a euro thing), so go figure ;). I think these sites just put in a ballpark date in their database.

  • Same as you Keen, only with Amazon Germany. No confirmation mail yet. But release date is 09/18/2008 too.

  • Gamestop (yeah, they are *always* right, huh?) just sent out a newsletter this morning listing it still as Sept 16th. I’m not going to hold out on this one just yet. Newletter should be out in the next day or two. Maybe some real info about release will be in it.

  • i will never order from amazon again, myself and lots of others got there AoC pre orders 2 weeks later, anyone who ordered from amazon should really think about geting it else where, thats if you want to play on the day its out.

  • If you get your box or not doesnt really matter. With open beta access you will already have the game client. You will be able to play until you get your box and cdkey.

  • I did what Neri did and my estimated ship date is now September 18th. I think their system is just being a little fuzzy on updating all the orders to display the correct expected date. Whether September 18th is true is debatable, but if you pretend to change your shipping options the date should update to the current prospect.

  • It threatens me with this “If you had free shipping and you edit this you may lose it”… i totally forget if i had free shipping or not. Hmmm

I may go in and edit it though. Thanks guys!

  • My email from Amazon.com says, “Estimated arrival date: 09/29/2008 – 10/03/2008.”

Editing the shipping options did not change the date. 🙁

    We shall see.

  • Doesn’t their free shipping take some godawful amount of time to get to you unless you have a Prime account though? :/

  • I went and checked out my order, the delivery date said “October 1st”. So I edited the shipping like a few of you stated, just confirmed the same shipping option I had, and it updated to September 18th.

  • Okay, I edited mine and it’s telling me the estimated delivery time will be the 22nd now. Since the game releases on the 18th that isn’t too bad.

  • I went and changed my shipping too. Priority International Courier. Ouch. New ship date : September 19, 2008 – September 23, 2008.

That’ll work out well I suppose.
