I guess it’s WAR video day. Found another movie, this time on Gametrailers, of epic places we can visit in Warhammer Online. One word: Amazing Atmosphere. Okay, that was two words.

The above video is the SD version. If you can, I highly suggest you go to Gametrailers and watch the HD version. Looks amazing!

UPDATE (another video)

Gametrailers released another video this afternoon.  This one is a fast… almost bullet point format interview.. of what the game is about.  I really like their explanations; some great one liners in there.  The video also contains lots of game-play footage.

“We take everything that is great about Warhammer; about the intellectual property – All of the great ideas, the big world, the great history and lore, and we ram it into an awesome huge magnificent online roleplaying game.” – Jeff Hickman

  • Eh what Dave?

That looked amazing. As you said Keen the atmosphere seems awesome – gritty and desolate, but at the same time resolute and determined.

  • That footage is hardly new. I saw that same lame footage 6 months ago. Has nothing changed in the game in that time?

  • @Dave: I think Gordo is, like many, a little sensitive and expectant of negativity. Just look at comment #4. 😉

@Chris: I’m not sure if it’s all new or not. It looks great though and represents something that I find very appealing in WAR: The atmosphere.

  • I’ve been bitten by the WAR bug lately. I’m getting really stoked to try it out. After I read about the White Lion class (EQ Beastlords!!)… argh… must stop salivating…

  • The second video you guys posted shows some great footage. Also I love the comment “the game ships this fall.” No sarcasm here, Gordo. I’m fired up.

  • Ah cool Dave. My bad. Just when I see comments like one for the shaman video ‘WoW thats basically a copy of WoW with worse graphics. How’s that for epic fail’ my face and my palm meet quite a bit and become very well acquainted.

I prolly should have clicked your name, and when I’d seen your blog is a WAR blog, I might have realised… 😛

  • Yeah RvR sounds awesome. The fact that it encompasses the game, rather than being tagged alongside it seems to me the reason it’s special. I think they’ve got it spot on with the graphics. Good enough to look great if you’ve got the rig that’ll run it, but in the style that you can rack down a lot of the settings without suffering from eye-pain too much. Also, I think the speed of combat is awesome. In AoC it was waaay too fast – I mean, it wasn’t unknown for me to get a lagspike (like, 2-3s) and then catch up to realtime, only to find myself dead! The pace in WAR seems like it gives everyone time to react, whilst still fast enough to keep you on your toes.

  • I loved the “what other games call PvP” comment… all he needed to do was roll his eyes at that very moment and it would be golden.

  • I love Jeff’s look of apprehension when saying the game will ship this fall. That sure gives me confidence! 😛

  • Jeff & Paul nailed it in this interview. It’s amazing, that they were capable of squeezing most mechanics and flavors of WAR in the short period of time, they had to talk.

  • Wait… THAT’S the game I’m waiting for? Seriously?

…I’m going back to Hello Kitty Online.

  • How can I work after watching this…All I want is to be @ release date.

Awesome vids which capture the grittiness of Warhammer.

  • I am after WAR but haven’t really seen anything special in both videos. Oh well as long as it will have WoW gameplay with better balance and better end-game it will be fine.

  • Weird that a lot of people get excited over these videos. The graphics look already outdated and the game isnt even out yet. The fighting / combat looks very static.

  • I dont know u, but everytime i see some video of WAR i go with a different empression. Sometimes a piece of shit and sometimes very impressed..

God damn, the videos, they looks in everything like wow, specially the graphics… ¬¬

  • @Eric

I agree. Sure, what they say sounds very promising. Phrases like, “Storm their capital, torch in hand, and burn everything they hold dear,” sounds great, but it is a little to vague and generalized for my taste.

Combat… what is there to say? Same old, same old, same old. I can’t wait for the Warhammer Online: Watch Paint Dry expansion.

  • You can actually count between strikes

    Hit, 2, 3, 4, 5
    Hit, 2, 3, 4, 5

Weird how the combat seems so slow.
Pretty particle effects, but those old WoW systems may croak on those.

I think I still like the X-Play preview better with Paul staring at Morgan’s boobs.

  • “I think I still like the X-Play preview better with Paul staring at Morgan’s boobs.”

    Hey, who wouldn’t?

  • One thing I am looking forward to trying is testing “RvR at any level.” I don’t want to go though the whole leveling tredmill to RvR. I want it to be an option all the time.

  • Rather than “RvR at any level” it could be more accurately called “RvR at every level”. You can level up from 1-40 entirely within the RvR system, and never do a moment of PvE if you don’t want to. You’ll end up at level 40 with gear just as good as the PvE folks, plus the benefit of all the renown ranks you earned. I imagine it will be slower to level than PvE, but in a way you’d kind of want it to be. If you’re really enjoying the 11-19 scenarios you don’t want to outlevel them too fast . . .

  • To touch more on RvR possibly being slower than PvE, you also have to take into account that RvR is a dynamic experience and can be random. You’re not guaranteed X amount of exp like you are from completing a quest. The enemy may be out in numbers one minute and be hiding the next. I’m expecting it to be inconsistent and unpredictable, but that’s what I would HOPE it to be.

PvE leveling will be far more predictable and could possibly be faster.

It has been said by Mythic that the quickest way to level is a combination of PvE and RvR. I know that’s the path I’m taking. When one route is feeling sluggish I’ll use the other to fill in the gaps.

  • Hey, theres PvP in Leveling in WoW too.. its called “Trying to Level in Strangledthorn Vale, with 70ers of the other Faction showing you the Corpserun-World”.
