Punkbuster Disallowed Program/Driver 125067

So what are the odds that I talk about Punkbuster and even praise it a little and then suddenly have trouble with it a few days later?  Apparently pretty good…  Tonight Graev and I were playing Call of Duty 4 when we were kicked from the server with the error message that PB detected a Disallowed Program/Driver 125067.  Googling this problem did absolutely nothing for us.  We sent in a trouble ticket to the official punkbuster peeps and so far haven’t heard anything back from them.

A little sleuthing however turned up the following information.  Apparently if you buy games through Steam it can occasionally cause problems with Punkbuster to have the in-game overlay enabled.  Thinking this might be our issue we disabled it by opening Steam and going to File > Settings > In-game > And uncheck the box.  So far so good.  If anyone else is having this problem or suddenly develops this problem we highly suggest you try this method.  I hope that Google picks up on the topic of this and propagates it out there so that others won’t be stuck for hours without a solution as we were.

This just goes to show you that sometimes these anti-cheat programs can be more trouble than they are worth.  Almost.

  • Indeed, things are good to go here too! I just started getting this error and this page was the only one that showed up in google search. Ty!

  • Oh thank god there is someone out there with the same problem as me. 🙂 I love google! thank you for the solution.

  • Thank you very much for this. Punk Buster has a horrible support system. I don’t think any game companies should use it until they get their act together in the support department.

  • Had the same problem, but your solution didn’t fix it! I am not really running any other programs – just NVIDIA and some audio drivers and KAspersky anticheat.

    No idea what to do.

  • This did NOT work for me. i found out it was NOD32 antivirus. it seems like it stopped CoD4 from applying some sort of update to the main .exe launcher file.

i disabled antivirus it and now it works.

  • YEP – this fixed it for me. i googled for a solution yesterday and found nothing. Today you’ve hit number 1 in the google stakes.

    Thanks a million.

  • I hadn’t had any problems with the game until I read this article. I read it, and then bam, I was getting kicked out by PB over an over. Not sure what my problem was, because I went back the next day and everything worked fine. Strange…

  • my problem is similar..
    disallowed program driver 125078
i’ve just update all components of motherboard…
    someone can help me????

    disallowed program driver 125078
    i hate steam!

  • I got the same error but with 90042 as the code number. I did a fresh install of windows and game to a new hard drive and same thing. Ticket open with Evenbalance but have not heard anything…and as u guys mentioned maybe I won’t which is crap.
THe game isnt from Steam so your solution doesnt apply.
Anyone else have the same error message with number 90042 in the last week?

  • 90042 error for me as well. It started this morning. I submitted a ticket to evenbalance but have not heard a word. PB sux.

Note #3: I would like a list of your running processes. To get them do this:

    1. Start the game, minimize it.
    2. Click “Start” => “Run” => type “cmd”
    3. Type “tasklist /SVC > tasks.txt”

This procedure will create a text file with a list of your current processes. The text file can be found at”C:/Documents and Settings/[your user]/tasks.txt”.

Paste the contents in a new note (you may need to split it in two or more notes).

  • I bought a new HD and only thing installed is XP and COD4 with punkbuster. No anti – virus etc…
It’s not a running process causing it.

  • I agree… my pc has been running the same processes for a year now…. I sent my PID list anyway. Time will tell I guess, meantime I am not able to game.

  • This is exactly why it is a problem on their end..via update to client profile or something similiar. I have been using my same configuration for a year now and the issue started this morning. They need to resolve it soon or I am going to be pissed. I am a COD4 junkie 🙂

  • I was a COD4 junky. I go to my condo in the mountains for a week returned last Friday to game…and after 2 hrs of playing this happened last Friday. So between my holiday and now PB im 2 weeks tomorrow without COD4. 🙁

  • OMG I did what you said and it is working.
Not sure if its the timing but on another forum Ive posted in EB told them they fixed the issue. Didnt say what they did but they fixed it.
    We all may be saved!!!!!!!
ANyone still having trouble keep posting….but follow BUddy directions just in case it was that not EB.
    Peace
