Activision Blizzard

Today in a press release found on Blizzard’s website it was announced that Blizzard along with all other Vivendi Games companies will merge with Activision to form one heck of a juggernaut “Activision Blizzard”. This won’t affect anything at Blizzard they claim but it is an enormous merge in the gaming industry.

If you go to the new official ActivisionBlizzard.com website you’ll see their little spiel on the front page.

“The combination of Activision and Vivendi Games, Activision Blizzard, will create the world’s largest, most profitable pure-play video game publisher with some of the most popular titles in the industry, including Guitar Hero®, Call of Duty®, Tony Hawk, World of Warcraft®, Starcraft® and Diablo®.”

While most of these titles have operated individually of each other’s fame it will be interesting to see if any new titles titles come from this now enormous entertainment company.  With this type of merge I’m curious if it will lead Blizzard into developing titles for a console.  Activision has a strong presence in the console world and there is no doubt that in today’s market the console gamers outnumber PC gamers.

Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

  • I actually really miss the days of Blizzard console games. Blackthorn and Lost Vikings are still 2 of my favorite games… one can hope.

  • This is going to be interesting to keep an eye on. Two powerhouse companies now under one name and management. Blizzard has always had great games and Activision is hit-or-miss. Maybe now that Blizzard is on board, they’ll dominate the market with wonderful games. Or maybe they’ll bring each other down and it will be a disaster.

Anyhow, how have you been lately? Seen any of Arke? We all need to meet up again and play a game sometime.

  • Hey Bart, long time no talk! Nope Arke is MIA still. I’m on AIM/MSN/Yahoo all day and never see him on anymore. How about you? Still playing TF2? I’ve been playing a couple hours a day lately and filling in the gaps with some EQ2.
