Halo 3 countdown…

In about two hours Graev and I will be departing for Gamestop to pick up our copy of Halo 3 at the midnight release.  I’m not even sure where to begin.  I’m simply not a huge Halo fan like so many people out there have become.  When Halo first came out I played it like everyone else and in co-op with Graev.  The game was pretty good but not this religious experience that so many people now worship in a cult-like following.  Honestly I’ve never touched Halo 2 (although we own it) and Graev just started playing it a few days ago.  I think Graev’s turned to the dark side….

So with Graev being brainwashed by the Halo cult I find myself writing that I’m going out at midnight, in Southern California, to buy a video game.  The crazy things we do for our passion!  I’ll give Halo 3 a try since there’s so much hype about it.  Watching G4’s countdown made me gag when they went down the line of Halo nerds and asked them to each sing the Halo song.  Be thankful you probably weren’t watching.  I’m going to be scared for life.

Tomorrow hopefully I can blog about my first impressions and get Graev to give me some insight on what he likes or doesn’t like.  If I can wake up we’ll get our next episode of Keen and Graev’s Podcast published and most likely talk Halo 3 some more.  I apologize for these late night posts the past few days!  Things should pick back up soon.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean. A very high percentage of Halo fans seem to be in the ‘obsessive fanboy’ category — and it always seems like there has never been a FPS game ever created before or after Halo. The gaming forum that I sometimes frequent is full of people like this, and the Halo thread is akin to a masturbation room. You can’t comprehend anything due to the loud groans and moans and ‘OMG OMG OMG HALO 3 FTW!!!!1111’

    *sigh*

  • I’ll post my reply to your post on my blog here, Keen.

No. I’m not at all looking forward to this one. 2 reasons.

    1.) I don’t have a 360. 🙂

2.) Even when I had an Xbox Halo never did it for me. I’d rather play Goldeneye or Half-Life if it has to be a shooter. Those games are worth their weight in gold. Halo is over-hyped, but not bad. Just not as good as it’s being hailed as.

  • I have to agree with JoBildo on this one. I have an XBox, and Halo just collected dust. It never really did it for me. While I’m sure that much, much more were added in subsequent releases . . nothing I saw really grabbed me.

In fact, other than being forced to play kiddie games with my daughter, I have not touched my PS2 or XBox in about 3 years.

  • Although MMORPGs and PC games are my favorite I still play with the consoles from time to time. Graev is at heart a console fan and is always playing with them however. And he just recently got involved with the Halo stuff and loves them. *shrug* They’re cool games but nothing to lose sleep over.
