Travian

I have a new addiction in the form of a massively multiplayer browser game. The name of the game is Travian. “Travian is a browser game with a world full of thousands of users who all begin as the leaders of small villages.” At first glance the game looks like something out of a children’s book, but once you go through the tutorial and learn the basics you will unlock the amazing and addictive gates of your own village and join the world of Travian.

TravianTravian is completely free! The registration process takes no more than 3 minutes. You are faced with only two choices to begin you adventures in Travian; which race do you want to play and where do you want to start. With the choice of Roman (newbie friendly and balanced), Gaul (defensive and peaceful), or Teutons(offensive) you begin your life as the leader of a small and humble village. One of Travian’s greatest traits is the use of real-time. Everything you want to build and every action you take will require minutes or hours of real time to complete. The game is so friendly to the casual players that if you’re one who wants something done here and now with immediate results this probably isn’t the game for you.

As the tutorial strongly suggests it is best that you build up your village economy first. New villages are immune for two real weeks from other players attacks. That’s right, in Travian you are open to attack by other players. With a strong economy you will support the foundation of a grand army. From there you can choose to play defensively or conquer your neighbors. Through the use of a very friendly map you will have access to the locations of every other player on your server (Server 1 is where my village is located).

Make friends, form alliances, or be hated by all you destroy. The choice is yours in Travian. If you would like to contact me, attack me (if you dare), or worship me as your god here is my contact info:

Player: Keen Lurikeen, Server: 1, Village: Keen Village, Location: -247, -12

  • I actually had no idea! It tends to be a common nickname I guess. Mine derived from MeanKeenLurikeen (My Vault network forum account name) and from the DAOC race “Lurikeen”. 😀

  • […] I’m giving the browser-based MMO Travian a try. I discovered it from a post on keen and graev’s gaming blog. The game looks like Settlers of Catan at first, but appears to be a classic gather-resource-and-build RTS. It takes resources and real-time to build improvements. […]

  • […] Keen and Graev’s Gaming Blog has an entry on the 18th August about Keen’s new addiction to Travian & so have them bookmarked. Shame that they are on a US server but will be interesting to see if Keen makes further posts. […]

  • You may have sitters while you are still active.
You may have a dual account, meaning that multiple people share the same account. This is okay as long as none of those people have or play another account on the same server.

Unless your playing as a team its pointless to play the game the top players are all teams
The advantage of spending real world money ends up pointless unless you plan to spend hundreds of dollars as the others playing as a team does not run out of their advantage

You can confirm this with Taranis Super Administrator on the games forums http://forum.travian.us

  • In order to stay alive in this game you have to know what kind of player are you
    defender or offender
    Different strategies taking place here
