Delbert’s great day and the egos of some

Yesterday was a great day for Delbert.  It began with some questing in Thundering Steppes that eventually lead to me finding a group for the Ruins of Varsoon.  I was lucky and found myself in a group with players who were alts of raiders which meant every item in their inventory was mastercrafted or fabled.  Once again I felt under-geared and perhaps almost useless.  But as the group went on I noticed something.  These ‘raider alts’ love their damage parsers – but I’m used to that so that’s not what surprised me.  What surprised me was that even though my gear completely stinks in comparison I was continually parsing top 2 – just below Wizard(he had 4 levels on me…).  Well that felt great and what felt even more great was when we kept downing these bosses that dropped amazing gear that no one wanted!  I walked away with a pair of level 33 pants that are a huge upgrade and get this – a Fabled level 30 1h Sword that’s 30+dps with great stats!  The raiders gave me all sorts of advice that would help me along my way and they departed for their raids after earning everyone in the group an entire level.  Woohoo!

Ugh, now the bad part of my day.  The egos of some astound me!  How some people can think they are the center of attention in the world and not even consider others is beyond me.  I was raised to know better and to me it’s common sense that being a complete asshat isn’t something you do.  Let me just get right into it.  I found a group to go to Fallen Gate and we were short a healer.  The group leader is messaged by a level 70 that says “hey if you go to Crushbone Keep I have a level 20 alt that’s fully twinked in great gear and master 1’s!”.  So the group leader moves us from FG all the way to Faydwer (Not a fun run folks) and it takes us about 40 minutes to get everyone out of FG, find more dps, get settled, and so on.  We arrive in the keep and the level 70 says “okay logging over to my alt”.  He logs in and we find that his “amazing healer alt” is level 20.  That’s NINE levels below the lowest person in our group.  You know what he says?  “Everyone mentor me and I should get levels really quickly and then we can go deeper.” ….

I messaged the group leader and said “hey man listen, it’s late and it took forever to get this group going just to find out we are here to powerlevel some twinked alt.  I’m heading out.”  I then told the group I was going and left.  Was I in the wrong to do so?  Before I logged out for the night, because it really was late, the level 70’s alt sent me a tell saying “Wow”.  Was I wrong to leave this group that took forever to set up just to find out we had to power level this alt healer?  There weren’t any other healers LFG -and I felt completely taken advantage of by this level 70 and his glorious alt.  So that’s my rant for the day but I would definitely appreciate feedback on the situation.

Today Delbert will hit level 30!

  • Wow, sounds great (fabled sword) and nasty (the other stuff.) You’ll run into all kinds of people like that, but you need to just shake it off, you’ll run into tons of great people too!

  • I’d say you were completely right for your decision to leave. In fact, I’d have left too. I hate it when people push aside whatever someone else may have in mind only to say “ok now, everyone mentor MMEEEEEEEE”….. the game is very social, and there is more then just ‘you’ in it. Unless you’re solo’ing, you really have to be accepting of it and people like the one you encountered won’t get far with that attitude.

  • You were so ‘not’ wrong my friend! Cheeky little so and so he was…I hate that when everyone thinks the game revolves around them..I certainly hope the whole group did as you did…’wow’ indeed. Langdale would have shoved that ‘wow’ right up his…oh yeah big Grats on 30!!

    Well Done!
