I'll be trying the Elementalist and Mesmer next BWE.

I love Elementalist.. they have the most abilities available at a time out of all the classes. Like staff will have 4 sets of weapon abilities depending on your magic attunment (air, fire, etc..) and can switch between them.
They can heal, aoe, buff, etc.. Lots of utility. They also can get pets.

Mesmer was interesting but didnt like it for some reason.

Not sure about the Engineer.  I'm worried about his damage output and overall usefulness.  Have you used the Engineer long enough to give your opinion on those matters?

The mesmer was probably the most unique and confusing class I played. I had trouble deciding what role I imagined him filling. His play style changed radically based off what weapon he was using. If he used a staff, scepter or torch he became a ranged supporter. If he used a great sword, he became a ranged high DPS. If he used one handed swords, he became a melee DPS. My confusion was compounded by the fact that he is a light armor class so he can't afford to take a lot of direct abuse. Hard to avoid in melee combat.

His utilities make it even more confusing. They span the range from abilities that give stealth to bubbles that reflect projectiles to teleports to direct damage spells and debuffs. All the while, you have illusion abilities to manage. Was one of the more complex classes i've encountered in an MMO.

The engineer felt like a step up in complexity from the mesmer. I've heard from a lot of people say that they were dissapointed in his DPS output. I found myself unable to defeat the NPC sparring bots in The Mist.

That being said, I found him to have a truly dizzying array of utility. I felt like he could literally fill almost any role a group needs and he can switch into that role as fast as he can put on a new backpack. Everything from healing, to buffing, to making minefields, turret farms, ranged debuffs, close ranged DOTs, knock up, knock backs, pulls, stuns, movement altering abilities...seriously...the class had it all. How well he can do those things compared to the other classes, I don't know.

I haven't a clue which i'll play. Going to have to look over the abilities some more. May end up doing both.

Hope these thoughts were helpful.

My mesmer ended up having one of the highest survival rates in random BGs simply because of the illusions.  With how the camera is, the AI is good enough that its hard to figure out which is the real mesmer.  I might not have been doing the greatest damage but I'm pretty sure I was the greatest distraction.

I could see the engineer's utility being very nice in organized pvp, but in randoms it just doesn't make much of a difference and the damage up there otherwise.

Next BWE if there is one I'm going to focus on mesmer, guardian, and maybe elementalist since I didnt get to play it at all.

I only played the ranger as i did not play much,  but she was good fun.
I focused on 1h axe and warhorn, this gave me nice aoe damage on my auto attack, a slow, a bleed an AoE haste+buff to all allys (not just group) and a strong dot
Shortbow is really good for conditional damage too with bleeds poisons cripples and a self haste/escape
Longbow has very strong damage but i found myself not using it

I did not spend much time with the other weapons

Eternity:
I had a lot of fun as a guardian, but I had the same feeling keen had with his war in wvw they have range but their range feels weak compared to their other skills so it's not fun to use. On the other hand I actually like warrior in wvw for some reason, dunno why.
