SWTOR F2P
« on: July 31, 2012, 04:57:03 PM »
Anyone going to give the game a try now that it's going to be free to play?

They've left the best part of the game entirely free and unfettered by any payments or cash shops.

I'll probably return to finish my experience. I'd like to play it as a casual RPG.

Personally, one of the main reasons I quit was because my class story (Smuggler) was such a disappointment for me. So I'll probably just stay away, even though I only made it about halfway through.

I am no longer disappointed when some asshat of a company with a mediocre product pumps and dumps on the people that are hoping for something worth 15 dollars a month knowing damn full well that they are going F2P after the initial cash grab. I am just angry.  Here's a novel fracking idea, make a product worthy of the business model you choose and stick with it.  And oh, I don't know, support that product and bring out new content once in a while.  Don't lead your cusomer base on with "new content is coming soon" and "incredible news on the horizon." A cash shop is not new content and F2P is not incredible news unless you are indecisive and on the fence or a trolling cock knocking general chat ass cancer that will play anything 4freez.  But oh btw, we are adding some stuff when we go F2P.  Screw off.  Spend time on real content and maybe you wouldnt  be in this position.

But you are going to play GW3 you say?  Yes!  And I am not even that excited about the game.  What I am excited about is the company.  Buy our game. Yes we have a cash shop, deal with it.  A few months from now, we are going to give you an expansion.  No it's not free you no talent ass clowns, this is a business, not a charity, but we arent going to charge you a ton for expansions. If you dont like it, go play one of the dozen subscription based games that have had to go F2P.

Ok, I feel better now.

It wasn't clear to me if the f2p model will still require the initial purchase of the game itself.  If it does, then I think I will pick it up when they have their $15 sale, since that's a pretty good value for the story line.

Thanks for the clarification.  I'll definitely pick it up.  I completely missed SWG, so I don't want to completely whiff this opportunity to play a SW mmo.

I'm still playing (since launch)...will probably continue to do so unless my PvP centric guild falls apart when GW2 comes out.  From a PvP endgame standpoint, the main thing I wish we had was cross server ranked queues.  It would actually encourage more groups to queue knowing that they have a better chance to fight people that are of similar ranking.  I'm not particularly keen on the gear scaling/progression in pvp, some of the class imbalances etc., but it's not garbage by any means.  1-49 is still the same silly fun time it always has been, and going over there on an alt is a welcome breath of fresh air when you need it.

I'm neutral on the whole f2p thing...will see what happens if I'm still around at that point.
