Little banjo medley

(1/2) > >>

Fidjit:
Hi folks,

So, I just uploaded a short recording of some of my banjo playing for critique at a banjo site I frequent, and thought I'd share it here in case anyone was interested. It's got a couple little mistakes, but I figured I'd upload it anyway. It's a short medley of three old-time american folk songs, played in the "Clawhammer" style.

Bartlebe:
Wow. It's cool that you can do this.

Can't say i'm the biggest Banjo/Bluegrass aficionado or anything, but I do like it occasionally. Good job.

Do you like this sort of stuff?

Chinese Bluegrass (REDGRASS): Red Chamber ??, Jaybirds

Fidjit:
Thanks for sharing that video! It was awesome, never seen it before. I'll have to spend more time looking up that group.

Abigail Washburn is another banjo player who has blended old-time American folk tunes with Chinese folk music. It actually works really well! She has some good solo albums, and also has a quartet called "The Sparrow Quartet" with the amazing banjo player Bela Fleck.

Bartlebe:
I've heard of Bela Fleck. He plays on an album with a bass player I really like.

Fidjit:
Edgar Meyer! He's great. Him and Bela Fleck have already done quite a lot together, I believe they're good friends. They did a great classical album called "Perpetual Motion".

I actually recently got a new album featuring Edgar Meyer called "The Goat Rodeo Sessions". It's kind of a crossover folk/bluegrass thing, with Yo-Yo Ma, a fantastic mandolin player named Chris Thile and a folk multi-instrumentalist named Stuart Duncan. Maybe you'd like it.
