So we tried out some Level 30 Challenges and Hard Mode missions
« on: February 03, 2011, 09:06:28 AM »
Damage, Nemesis and I tried them out yesterday and were surprised at how tough they were. Aside from the occasional open-world boss, a lot of DCUO up to this point was fairly easy. This stuff was seriously pretty tough. We didn't have a healer but we thought that maybe we could go through them, like you can with almost all the other instances, if you're just careful and patient. Not gonna happen.

We also did some level 30 PvP, which I learned I really stink at. Still feels like I have a lot to learn about the way combat works and how to get good at it. It was a good feeling to have a good bit of challenging and interesting things to do. Looking forward to exploring some more of them.

I'm still tooling around with lowbie characters trying out different power/weapon sets. So far my favorite is Nature/Staff, followed closely by Gadgets/Bow. I think in the long run I'm going to stick with the Nature/Staff character. I doubt that I will play past the initial free month right now, with Rift coming out in a few short weeks I'll probably say good by to DCUO for a while, but I can definitely see myself coming back at random intervals.

Yeah it's a great game to get in and get out.  I have a 8 week old little girl so it's fantastic game for me, although I am starting to miss the more epic mmorpg's so may give Rift another go.  We are tackling Raids atm and doing pretty good.

My guy will hit 30 today.  I'm not sure if I have to do any gearing up or anything but I'm up for some challenges and missions as a healer.

Actually Bart I was very happy with our PvP performance in the 5v5 and 8v8.   When Grimm joined us we actually held our own for a bit vs. Most Wanted.   Was nice not losing to a purple pre-made 0-100.  Then in the 8v8 we di what we were supposed to and held the Production Facility.  Yes we were undergeared but I think we made up for it somewhat with good teamwork.   Hopefully we'll get Grimm to heal for us in Hard Modes as well in PvP, then we're all set.

Rybnik, don't know if you've played Rift or how much you like it but I found it rather boring.  You can get the same experience but better from WoW.

Oh one more thing, I don't think I've ever laughed so hard or had such a fun time as I did last night with Bart and Nemesis trying to do the Hard Mode instance.

All I have to say is "Oh look a shiny!".  Still makes me laugh and smile now.  Thanks for the fun last night.  I'll remember it for years to come.

I haven't played Rift yet actually I've been trying to save the "newness" for launch. I'm not really expecting anything out of it other than a nicely done game. I'm not looking for anything revolutionary just something new. Plus I've already commited and purchased the digital copy of the game, I'm excited to see how the game pans out. If it only lasts a month or two that's fine, I'll still have DCUO to fall back into.

My only gripe with DCUO at the momment are those times when one or two lvl 30's drop from the sky and wail on me. I really enjoy the mouse-click combo system, despite still being rather inept at it. Overall I'm very pleased with my impulse buy of DCUO and would strongly recommend it to just about anyone (mmo gamer or otherwise).
