Forums and more guild details

I have more details for you all as promised regarding our Warhammer Guild/Community.

Forums
The forums for our Warhammer Community are now available. I want to encourage you to go over and register if you’re at all interested in joining up with us in-game. We have boards setup for you to introduce yourself and express interest in joining (not an application btw), a general discussion, and a private board for members only. Don’t feel pressured into posting on the boards if that’s not your thing! You can always email me or contact someone in-game for an invite. The boards are there to serve the simple purpose of giving our members a place to talk about the game and community outside of the game.

I have also gone ahead and added a section for general gaming discussion. This is a special board because it has absolutely nothing to do with Warhammer or the guild. It’s completely related to Keen and Graev’s Gaming Blog and discussion pertaining to – you guessed it – gaming. Our readers get to read what we want to post here on the blog but this will give you all an opportunity for it to go both ways. If the interest is simply not there then the board will be closed down and the forums left simply for the guild/community.

Guild Details – What’s in a name?
Quite simply, we wanted a guild name that conveyed a lighthearted and humorous approach to such a serious game and realm. Since our founding members are all playing Greenskins, we decided to play on this particular race’s eccentric and often whimsical character by naming ourselves “Happy Fun Guyz”. In case you’re now looking at your monitor with a look of utter confusion and dismay, it’s somewhat a play on words. Get it … “Fungi” .. “Fun Guyz”… Orcs come from mushrooms… yeah. What you’re feeling right now is precisely the feeling we want everyone to have when they see a bunch of people running around with Happy Fun Guyz under their names. The name matches our guild philosophy and ideology perfectly.

Happy Fun Guyz
We’re more than your average mushrooms

You will find more information on the forums and of course here on the blog. Remember that Open Beta can possibly start within the next week! We would like to get the guild up and our community interacting and playing together during open beta; and of course during the head-start. If you have any questions feel free to post them here as well.

Hehe. Happy Fun Guys? Never wouldn’t expected that. I was expecting somthing more along the lines a pun that promotes the blog somehow. Something like…

    “I dig Keen Graevs”

  2. Keen Says:

LOL well this isn’t just about us. ;) Although, should this idea fall through…. heh heh heh

  3. Kleist Says:

    I hate puns.

  4. Railith Says:

The forums are rocking so join in!

  5. FenixStryk Says:

TBH I was always wondering if Keen would ever attach a forum to his blog. If I didn’t say so before, I feel it’s a most welcome addition.

I’d kill for an edit button on these Comments pages, though. My previous comment was particularly gruesome in the grammar department.

  6. Keen Says:

I’ve been trying to figure out how I can add an edit button here but all attempts have turned out as failures.

I’m glad you guys are enjoying the forums.

  7. Michael Says:

You should of made it Happy Fungi’s then and let people get the fun guys part. Or even Happy Funguyz.

  8. Bartlebe Says:

    @Michael

    You brilliant bastard!

  9. Keen Says:

Nothing is set in stone until formed in-game. We can always change if we want. :)

  10. FenixStryk Says:

Not set in stone, eh? Hmm…

I figure you guys should brainstorm a few more names on the forums, then open a poll and the majority wins unless you decide to overrule it.

  11. musachy Says:

hey this is not a democracy, they are the biggest boyz, they pick the name. Now seriously, I like the name lol.

  12. Bwast Says:

    Socialism will conquer all!1!!

  13. Michael Says:

Yeah, Happy Fungi’s for the win :)

  14. Lumio Says:

good luck on your guild, I look forward to killing you guys soon. :)

    p.s. I agree with the fungi’s change.

  15. Gustavef Says:

    DOWN Wit Stuntties!!

I am starting to get psyched.

Now if we can get the Snotling artillery.

  16. Keen Says:

hahaha, a snotling cannon would rock.

  17. William Says:

Its your show so name the guild what you want but I do think Michael makes a good point. “Happy fungi’s”

  18. Kyuuo Says:

Yep, you’d get a lot of cred for Fungi’s :P

  19. Openedge1 Says:

    I wanted to comment….then I did not.

    Good luck Gui’s

  20. Popcorn Says:

Happy Fungi works much better I believe

  21. Keen Says:

We’ll definitely look into using Fungi’s (I’m not sure if we can use apostrophes in-game though). The main reason we didn’t go with Fungi is because we wanted to come up with something that mimicked Fungi and also meant something else. “Fun Guyz” does that while also giving people another direct meanining.

We’ll have to decide now which we want more – people to think Fun Guyz before Fungis or Fungis before Fun Guyz. ;)

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.

  22. Openedge1 Says:

I am wondering if everyone will think of “Happy Fun Guyz” like they think of “Fanbois” (i.e: the OTHER connotation for that word)
Not that there is anything wrong with that
    (*in his best Seinfeld voice)

But, I mean, seriously, I am not being rude at all, but…if you wish to be not thought of in that way..

    You may want …another name?

  23. Keen Says:

I’m confused – in what way would people think of us?

  24. Silent_X Says:

I post this as it’s incredibly important for the makers of the guild and those considering joining it. In the last post regarding this, Bartlebe asserted his impression that you would only be chickened on open servers if you tried to attack another player. I’ve read in several threads on WHA that so long as you’re RVR flagged and go into a lower tier zone, you’re immedietely turned into a chicken. This thread confirms it – edited from the beta forums:

    ——
    Question:
How would Open RvR confine you to your current Tier anymore than a Core ruleset would? Being chickened when you enter a lower Tier zone is a property of both.

    Mythic Response:
That’s not quite true. Chicken only kicks in when you are RvR flagged. On a Core server, you can go back to your faction’s lower tier PvE areas without being chickened. On an Open server where you are permanently flagged, going back to a lower tier PvE area would chickenize you.
    —–

I apologize for breaking NDA here but anyone who plays on a open rvr server will be solely restricted to zones of their own tier, thereby limiting where you can travel and what you can do.

Given that, the amount of territory and content, and ability to help lower level guildies is greatly diminished.

I wanted to do Open RvR and join you all but not at the expense of such a large chunk of the game.

Feel free to edit out the above but please bear it in mind and, if possible, give us a reason why that shouldn’t matter?

  25. Keen Says:

Actually Silent_X, that’s not entirely true. You’re giving partial misinformation right there. I won’t comment more because it breaks the NDA.

  26. Silent_X Says:

Ah, okay. Well, I wish I knew more as there’s quite a few people under that impression.

Can’t wait for the NDA to drop so we can clear this up, as that tidbit makes a world’s worth of difference to the quality of an open-RvR server experience.

  27. Bartlebe Says:

Ah ok. Well it made more sense in my mind for it not to kick in unless you attack someone. It seems pretty far fetched that they would set it up in such a way to as to limit ANY sort of going back and forth.

  28. Openedge1 Says:

    Well
I asked my wife and 2 friends we had over for supper about the name..making sure I was not seeing things…
    They all agreed.

    “Happy Fun Guyz”
The connotation definitely sounds like an “all male guild”.

  29. Silent_X Says:

    @Bartlebe

/agree. I think most people feel that way. A lot of people’s impressions are clouded by Mythic’s statements as conveyed by the leakers out there. Personally, when I first heard it I thought it was outrageous but when I saw the quote from the forums it had me a little shaken because, as you implied, it really doesn’t make sense for it to be as cut and dry as all that. Keen has me a little more reassured though.

On a side note, I just realized that this new guild is ran by the KGB. Creeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy. :-D

  30. Keen Says:

@Silent_X: Based on quotes from Mark Jacobs I don’t think they would be so bold as to block any and all traveling backwards. If they do then that will be the first and biggest mistake Mythic has made in my mind so far. It would be too easy to cross the threshold and be screwed out of PvE stuff. Let’s say you have a quest you want to turn in for a really nice reward but you just gained your level… Would they really stop you from being able to go back? That would be a tad ludicrous.

Let’s assume for a second that they do though. Would it be the absolute end of the world? No, probably not. There is a buffer of a level or two beyond the content in the tier. Level 11 I think is the last level you can be in Tier 1. The content dries up around 9 or 10 anyway. You have no business go backwards for RvR. The worst thing would be the lack of achievements and tome unlocks. That would be a big bummer.

It would make a lot more sense to chicken someone if they go into the ENEMY chapters.

But again, I’ve read statements from Mark Jacobs that shed some light on the issue and reassure me that we’re not looking at a total block from going backwards. (I hope)

@OpenEdge1: Wow, we were the topic of discussion at your supper with guests? O.o

We’re definitely not a male only guild. It’s a whimsical play on words.

  31. Graev Says:

OpenEdge, are you insinuating that it sounds like a gay guild? Just come out and say that instead of using obscure euphemisms and quotation marks.

I think the only people who would straight out assume such a thing are lacking a certain level of maturity.

  32. Ryan Says:

    Hey Keen,

I was surprised today, I was at my local Target store and they are currently selling a Pre-release “thing” of Warhammer Online. Its $ .99 and includes access to open beta, the head start, the two bonus in game items, and $5 coupon towards Warhammer Online. The coupon only works if you purchase the game at Target, but I thought this was a great deal for people who did not pre-order. Just letting you know, not sure if you knew about this little thing or not. Thanks!

  33. Keen Says:

Pretty cool Ryan. That sounds like the type of cards that were being given out to pre-orderers at Gamestop.

  34. Openedge1 Says:

    @Graev

I would beg to differ on the “maturity” remark. And to believe the maturity levels on the server you have chosen will be of a higher quality begs the question..

Do you want people to think this after all?

I for one have no issue if the guild is for gays, and was just making sure this was not what you wished to convey.

The reason the guild name came up in conversation is we were discussing various MMO’s. Guild Wars, AoC (and the cyber incident), WAR, and then I point blank asked these guys (my wife is 35, I am 45, and my friends are 32 and 40 respectively)what they would think if they saw the guild name “Happy Fun Guys”.

My wife is the one who first said “is this an all guys guild?” and then it took off from there.

I was really trying to see if you had thought this through. As the concept is sound, but using the Fungi would be more appropriate unless you wish to bring in the LGBT crowd is all.

It is not being rude. I am seriously discussing if this concept really has been thought out is all. I would have preferred you figured it out without all the “euphemisms” (hoped the Seinfeld one gave it away immediately).

But, straight up, older adults noted this as sounding like a gay guild.

    Sorry.

  35. Keen Says:

Openedge1, I really don’t know what to think of you man. You’re 45 and insinuating maturity on your part yet you’re making sweeping generalizations that Open RvR servers are for the immature and that our guild, according to your dinner table discussion, insinuates homosexuality.

I think I’ll put this kindly by saying you’re entitled to your opinion but I’m tired of seeing it clutter the comment section on my blog. ;)

And just in case it needs any clarification, we are not a “gay” guild nor are we a “straight” guild. That is such a silly distinction to even believe exists for us. This is a gaming community – I don’t care what someone’s lifestyle choice is nor would it impact their acceptance to our community.

Enough of this though. Let’s move on from this please.
