WAR really is everywhere!

How cool is this?!  Railith, a reader of our blog, sent us this ‘Sporemail’ titled “WAR really is everywhere” and included a picture of squigs made in the Spore creature creator. 😀

Thanks Railith!

  • With all that’s going on in MMO land for me, I had nearly forgotten about Spore… that’s a game that could be truly awesome.

  • Should be, although it’s difficult to create something that looks humanoid. Most of the time you end up with something that’s entirely different from what you initially wanted ^^ I got the full editor today und that’s my first creation, called Fin: http://youtube.com/watch?v=MjGVrKTO_MI

  • You could make a goblin, though it will likely look more beastial than the WAR goblins.

I’ve made 9 creatures so far with the Spore CC and wrote a review with introduction info, tips, and comments earlier today. Spore is going to rock.

I’ve been using a preview copy, so I won’t have my creatures uploaded to Sporepedia for another week or two, but eventually you can find all my creatures under the Spore username “hallower”. Let me know what names y’all use for Spore so I can find your creatures and add them to my Spore worlds.

  • YES! Sporeeeee!!!!

I am downloading the full version of the CC (that’s what us COOL people call the Creature Creator) tonight, at midnight. Cost me 10 bucks, but, you know…monsters and shit.

  • First of all, sorry for this totally off-topic post but I don’t know where else to put it.

I was a big fan of this blog, visited every day to check up on MMO news. I really liked the (mostly) neutral discussion/reviews/… of games. Sadly after you guys decided not to continue playing AoC, there hasn’t been 1 single post about it. As if it was banned from K&G for some reason. At the same time WAR is getting praised as if there are no other games out there! But tbh we don’t know anything about WAR except what the devs are promising… And we all know how that usually turns out.

AoC is in no way perfect, and miles away from being finished, but I do believe it deserves something more than “We’re not playing it anymore. Case closed.” I know it’s not like that, but I can’t help getting the feeling that this great blog became more of a WAR fansite than an objective gaming blog.

Sorry if this is insulting to anyone (Keen, Graev or any of the visitors), I don’t mean it that way. I just noticed myself visiting K&G purely out of a force of habit, than out of interest. Most of the time I clicked through to the next site on my favorites list when I read the new title for yet again another WAR post. While a few months ago I spent hours on this blog reading. (and really not only AoC related things, believe me)

  • @Dread

They started this blog to talk about games they enjoy. They also like sharing their personal opinions about their favorite games and any interesting thoughts that come along. I think you’re expecting this to be the CNN of unbais game dicussion when in fact it is a realm that is naturally going to have bias. It is a blog afterall.

I don’t believe they have a laundry list of games they have to talk about here. Also, in defense of AoC, they dedicated many, many articles to it. Now that they are no longer playing it or closely devoted to its development, why follow it?!? Doesn’t it makes more sense to talk about games you’re looking forward to, things on your mind or games you’re playing on YOUR blog?

Also, maybe some people have been playing WAR, hmm? Maybe a certain NDA is keeping certain people from blabbing about it? Maybe people know exactly what they’re talking about? The only difference between what’s happening now and what happened before AoC is that NOW there isn’t a steady trickle of disappointing info coming up about WAR. (unlike Conan)

I don’t mean to bark at you. I am just offering up some thoughts for consideration. I am a WAR fanboy so I can recognize my personal bias towards it.

    Just sayin’. §:-]

  • The biggest thing to remember Dread is that this is a blog about the games we are playing and looking forward to playing. When we were playing AoC, and before that looking forward to it, we were talking about it all the time. Once we tried the game beyond beta we knew it was not for us so we stopped playing. That means the blog posts stop coming unless something interesting can turn into a constructive discussion worth posting about.

While I understand what you’re trying to say, it would go against the entire purpose of what we’re trying to do here. This is simply how we operate. WAR is a big (read: MASSIVE) game on our radar and has been for many years. We’ve been fans of Mythic Entertainment when they were still Mythic Entertainment and continue to follow their company even now that it is owned by EA. WAR is going to be both Graev and my next mmorpg that we play for years.

You’re not alone though. When we talked about AoC we would get 10k-12k unique people visiting us daily. Now we’re back to 2-3k on a very good day. That hopefully shows you that we’re not writing for YOUR eyes, but for ourselves. I hope that makes sense. A blog, more specifically our blog, is where we write for us.

We do write about more than WAR, although right now we’re in a bit of a slump in terms of games that are easily written about on a daily basis. Graev is working diligently through MGS4 and Hulk and will write about those console games here real soon. I completely understand if you choose to stop visiting us, and wish you the best of luck in finding websites more suited to your interests. I thank you for at least stopping by and taking the time to have a voice. 🙂

  • Well said Keen. I mean I think this was mentioned in another post already Dread (or maybe in the ChaosCast podcast). If Warhammer Online flatlines for some reason and doesn’t live up to Keen and Graev’s expectations, they’ll probably stop talking about it as well (since they wouldn’t be playing it anymore similar to AoC). And since their site is focused on games in general and not just WAR, they can easily make that transition if it’s required. Let’s just hope it not required! 🙂

  • Thank you guys for taking the time to answer my post. I probably misunderstood the whole idea of this blog. I did end up here when looking through some AoC links, and kept on coming back here because I really liked the blog. It’s all very well written and definitely a good read. Because I also saw posts about a lot of other games, I kinda got the idea this blog covered all games you are or were playing. For example, I recently stopped playing WoW after several years but I still go searching for some links and info about WotLK, because I just like to know what new stuff they’re going to add to the game. Even though I probably will never log on to it again.

And so maybe I was hoping a little to find an AoC post here, even after you guys quitted the game. Because let’s face it, there’s a lot to talk about that game, and the official forums (as with any other mmo that I remember) give you nothing more than a biting headache.
But I get the goal of this blog now, and don’t worry, I’ll keep coming here! I really enjoyed the post about Lego IJ, that game is just sublime! And don’t get me wrong about WAR, it hasn’t left my radar too yet… 🙂

  • I could have written today about how the first ever siege in AoC bombed because of lag, lack of development, Mercenary system not even being in the game, guilds having to disband to participate, and overall failed horribly thus justifying all the complaints I had… but I want to avoid going down that path. 😉 I really have nothing positive to say, and unless I feel it’s truly justified I want to avoid being negative for the sake of being redundantly negative.

    Appreciate your comments Dread. 🙂

  • That looks like a create your own Pokemon-game to be honest. Nothing wrong with that though.. I’ll prolly test it out once it releases. 🙂
